The sky is blue, water is wet, and Zack Snyder gets credited for the best action scene in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

It's hard to tell if the discourse is even being serious anymore.

Ever since James Gunn was named as the co-CEO of DC Studios, there’s been an unyielding desire on the part of Zack Snyder‘s supporters to pit the two against each other whenever possible, even if the connections and comparisons being made can often be described as tenuous at best.

The ironic thing is that the pair seem to be on good terms, and it definitely can’t be overlooked – no matter how many people want to stick their fingers in their ears and ignore it – that Gunn wrote the screenplay for the best-reviewed movie of Snyder’s entire career, which also happened to be his first.

Now that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is available on digital and VOD, the knives are being sharpened all over again thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster’s standout action sequence that features the titular team decimating a hallway full of goons in spectacular style.

Wouldn’t you know it, the dreaded discourse has immediately latched onto the train-set scene from Snyder’s Sucker Punch, a film that was savage by critics and bombed at the box office.

The funniest thing is that Gunn already revealed many of his inspirations, with dramatically under-seen and utterly incredible South Korean actioner The Villainess being named-dropped by the writer and director in the buildup, and it became patently clear where Jung Byung-gil’s minor masterpiece factored in when watching Star-Lord and the gang kick ass and take names. Snyder on the other hand? Not so much.

Of course, the Gunn vs. Snyder battle manufactured by a certain corner of the internet will never abate, so there’s no point even crossing your fingers in the hopes it’ll end soon.
