A Thief, Two Thugs, An Assassin And A Maniac Assemble In Guardians Of The Galaxy TV Spot

Marvel will go further into space than ever before this summer with Guardians Of The Galaxy. Fittingly, the film is also the studio's riskiest undertaking yet, featuring a talking raccoon, a tree-like being and a blue space pirate, to name just a few of the film's crazy characters. Luckily, it appears that director James Gunn has struck the perfect balance between goofy humor and awesome action, so Guardians Of The Galaxy seems primed to take off with both critics and audiences.

Marvel will go further into space than ever before this summer with Guardians Of The Galaxy. Fittingly, the film is also the studio’s riskiest undertaking yet, featuring a talking raccoon, a tree-like being and a blue space pirate, to name just a few of the film’s crazy characters. Luckily, it appears that director James Gunn has struck the perfect balance between goofy humor and awesome action, so Guardians Of The Galaxy seems primed to take off with both critics and audiences when it arrives in August.

A new TV spot for the film has hit the web today, offering a few glimpses at villain Korath (Djimon Hounsou) and another character who may or may not be the villain Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace). There’s also shots of an awesome action sequence featuring Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) and Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper), and a voice-over by Nova Prime Irani Rael (Glenn Close), the leader of police force Nova Corps. “Our world is facing an unstoppable threat,” she intones. “Send in the Guardians.” Yes, please.

I’m extremely excited to finally see this movie. The cast is absolutely superb, also including Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Karen Gillan as Nebula (the aforementioned blue space pirate), Josh Brolin as the voice of purple big bad Thanos and Benicio del Toro as The Collector. It’s going to be particularly cool to watch Saldana, who so notably played a blue-skinned alien in James Cameron’s Avatar, go green for her lead role.

The trailers for this blockbuster have so far displayed a winning blend of comedy and action, and there’s no reason to suspect the final product won’t do the same. We’ll find out for certain when Guardians Of The Galaxy opens August 1st.

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team – the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits – Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is presented by Marvel Studios. The film releases August 1, 2014, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
