Just when you thought things couldn’t get any more heated or divided among the DCU fandom, a rogue splinter cell of SnyderVerse apologists actively considered the idea of mounting legal action against Warner Bros. and James Gunn based on the post-credits scene of Black Adam being deemed as false advertising for promising the Henry Cavill comeback that never materialized.
It’s preposterous to put it lightly, but there are always going to be a vocal band of naysayers who won’t get on board with the franchise’s change in direction for the sole reason the Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker isn’t Zack Snyder. Not that he even wants to be, but things have gotten heated after Gunn was accused of telling bare-faced lies.
Ironically, when it comes to the most open and aggressively honest high-profile creatives in Hollywood, Gunn has to be ranked near the top of the list. After all, he openly blasted the old Warner Bros. regime for its treatment of both DC at large and Cavill in particular, so it’s no surprise he immediately dived in to clear the air after multiple accusations of misinformation were thrown directly in his face.
Reasonable explanations be damned, the allegations are obviously being leveled by the rare group of human beings to have never once in their entire lives said one thing and then done another, or backtracked on a previous statement to go ahead and do exactly that which was claimed wouldn’t be done.
Hollywood is a treacherous place full of shifting loyalties and outright back-stabbing, so Gunn saying he didn’t want to tackle Superman or an executive role before going on to do both is hardly the end of the world.
