Another familiar face will be returning to the world of Thor as well though in the shape of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, the God of Thunder’s ex who’ll also be playing the female version of Thor from the comics. Naturally, this has led many fans to fear that Love and Thunder might be the end of Chris Hemsworth’s original Thor, but Waititi laid those fears to rest at Disney’s D23 expo, saying that there will be two Thors in the film.

“[She’s] a Thor. There’s still the other Thor, the original Thor [played by Hemsworth],” Waititi said before adding, “She’s not called Female Thor. In the comics, she’s called the Mighty Thor. It comes from that comic run. I couldn’t be more happy and excited.”

As Waititi says above, the storyline will be based off the comics that introduced female Thor, where the original Son of Odin temporarily became unworthy to wield Mjolnir, whose powers then passed on to Jane. We’ve already seen hints of such an event occurring in the MCU, too, with Thor spending Avengers: Endgame depressed, out-of-shape and avoiding going into battle again.

We might see the continuation of this narrative in Thor: Love and Thunder as well, leading to the God of Thunder temporarily losing his powers after being deemed unworthy, prompting the emergence of female Thor to take care of whatever new menace threatens the world in the film.

Of course, that’s just speculation for now, but we should learn more as we approach the pic’s November 5th, 2021 release. In the meantime, though, tell us, are you excited for Jane Foster’s return? Let us know in the usual place down below.
