One of the biggest takeaways from The Force Awakens in 2015 was the introduction of Kylo Ren, a dark, mercurial warrior brought to life with great menace by the towering Adam Driver. Equipped with an unusual crossguard Lightsaber, Ren possessed all of the malice and fiery rage that was sorely missing from Anakin Skywalker during the Star Wars prequels, and those fans of Driver’s cold, calculating knight can look forward to a similarly mesmerizing performance in this year’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi – albeit with a slightly different facial scar.
Going one step further – a step that takes us square into spoiler territory – Kylo Ren will surely become a much more menacing threat to the Resistance throughout the course of Rian Johnson’s sci-fi sequel. Not only did he slay his father (Han Solo) in cold blood, but he also limped off Starkiller Base after a gruelling battle with Daisy Ridley’s Rey. Supreme Leader Snoke certainly won’t be happy that his volatile protégé was bested by an unknown hailing from the planet Jakku, which will surely leave Ren with a fire in his belly as he seeks to win over Snoke’s approval once and for all.
That leads us to believe that The Last Jedi will feature Kylo Ren hunting down the remnants of the Resistance, and German website Mikado (via Making Star Wars) has now posted a new image of what appears to be Ren’s personal starfighter as it’ll appear in The Last Jedi. It’s strikingly similar to the classic TIE Interceptor, and is surely another step in Ren’s transformation to becoming Darth Vader 2.0.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi makes a beeline for theaters on December 15th of this year. It’s one of three major Star Wars tentpoles in the pipeline, and will be followed up by Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Han Solo anthology film and Episode IX, which recently locked in a May 2019 release date.
