The first trailer has been released for Steve McQueen’s highly anticipated second directional piece, Shame, starring Michael Fassbender. The film, which won Fassbender the best actor award at the Venice Film Festival, has earned rave reviews thus far and is set for a December release with its guaranteed NC-17 rating.

Shame features full frontal nudity by both Fassbender and Carey Mulligan and is already building up some buzz for its graphic content.

From the fantastic first trailer, we can already see how much depth Fassbender is going to bring to the role, which has him playing a self destructive sex addict. His acting looks both powerful and provocative and I can’t wait to see how the film turns out.

It will also be interesting how the film does during Awards season, as the NC-17 rating will reduce its commercial appeal and may even stop it from receiving the awards that it likely deserves.

Shame stars Michael Fassbender, Carey Mulligan, James Badge Dale and Nicole Beharie and will have a limited release on December 2nd, 2011.

Check out the trailer below.

“Shame tells the story of Brandon (Michael Fassbender), a New Yorker who shuns intimacy with women but feeds his desires with a compulsive addiction to sex. When his wayward younger sister (Carey Mulligan) moves into his apartment stirring memories of their shared painful past, Brandon’s insular life spirals out of control.”
