Relativity Media’s Jane looks to not only have gotten a gun, but also her act together after the studio released the first images from the long-gestating western.

After experiencing a switch in filmmakers alongside cast members jumping ship — namely Jude Law and later Michael Fassbender — who reportedly clashed with director at the time Lynne Ramsay, it’s fair to say that Jane Got a Gun has been through its share of development issues — and then some. But now, with little over nine months to go until its long-awaited and indeed delayed release, the studio has assured the world that the western tale is still coming thick and fast.

Starring Natalie Portman as the titular heroine, Jane Got a Gun — which will now be directed by Warrior‘s Gavin O’Connor in Ramsay’s stead — follows Jane as she goes to her ex-lover for help when her husband finds himself in a spot of bother with a local and ruthless gang. Joel Edgerton is on board as the ex-lover, while Noah Emmerich is set to play the role of the wayward spouse. Rounding out the cast list are Rodrigo Santoro, Boyd Holbrook, and Ewan McGregor in the role of the villain.

As we alluded to earlier, O’Connor’s troubled flick was initially due to drop in the summer of last year, before being pushed to February 2015. Now, Jane Got a Gun is due to swagger onto the silver screen on September 4, 2015 — and after director changeovers, departing actors and a handful of controversial lawsuits, we’re hoping the worst is behind O’Connor and co.

But the bigger question remains: can Jane Got a Gun go on to succeed after persevering through one of the most troubled productions in recent memory? Time will tell.
