Watch The Latest Trailer For Sci-Fi Underdog Europa Report

It’s arrived! The latest trailer for sci-fi thriller, Europa Report has landed. With the rights snapped up by Magnolia’s genre arm, Magnet Releasing, the flick has slowly been gathering word of mouth from stellar early reviews.

Here’s Magnet’s official synopsis:

EUROPA REPORT follows a contemporary mission to Jupiter’s moon Europa to investigate the possible existence of alien life within our solar system. When unmanned probes suggest that a hidden ocean could exist underneath Europa’s icy surface and may contain single-celled life, Europa Ventures, a privately funded space exploration company, sends six of the best astronauts from around the world to confirm the data and explore the revolutionary discoveries that may lie in the Europan ocean. After a near-catastrophic technical failure that leads to loss of communication with Earth and the tragic death of a crewmember, the surviving astronauts must overcome the psychological and physical toll of deep space travel, and survive a discovery on Europa more profound than they had ever imagined.

The topic of the film; a mission into space that goes mammaries skywards…it’s not exactly new. What could easily have been spun to resemble your typical sci-fi actioner appears to be a far more intriguing affair, as evidenced in this latest trailer. What is immediately striking is the stunning cinematography and unusual shot composition. Obviously Magnet’s marketing team are going to go hell for leather on constructing a kick ass teaser. And it certainly does that.

There’s echoes of Prometheus, Sunshine, and Event Horizon present in this newest clip. From the looks of it, Europa Report turns away from usual genre methods and attempts to broach familiar subject matter via different routes.

District 9‘s Sharlto Copley assumes the lead and is joined by Michael Nyqvist, Embeth Davidtz, Daniel Wu, Anamaria Marinca, Christian Camargo and Karolina Wydra.

Europa Report is released in the U.S. through VOD June 27th and will land in cinemas August 2nd.
