However, Warner Bros. will soon be rebooting the Superman side of the DC universe as well in their planned Supergirl movie. We Got This Covered has previously brought you some exclusive details on the Girl of Steel’s introduction into the DCEU, and now we’ve heard of a couple of actresses who might end up playing her.

First up, our source informs us that Hailee Steinfeld is being eyed to portray Kara Zor-El in the franchise. Steinfeld’s star has been on the rise for a while now, with the actress leading Bumblebee last December. Superhero fans will definitely recognize her voice too from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, in which she gave a standout portrayal as Spider-Gwen. Also on the wishlist is Elle Fanning (The Neon Demon), an actress who’s been the subject of fan-casts for the character for a while now.

Those are the only two names that were given to us by our source, but we’ve been assured that this doesn’t mean that these two are the frontrunners, as WB still has a wishlist for Supergirl that contains “a few others.” It’s also important to note that the casting process hasn’t begun yet and the studio is just keeping a watch on these actresses for the time being.

From what we understand, the Supergirl movie will be part of a rebooted DCEU continuity that’ll step away from established canon – much like how The Batman won’t connect up with Ben Affleck’s version of the Dark Knight. The Man of Steel himself won’t appear in the film, but it’ll certainly sow the seeds for a new actor to step into the role in the not-so-distant future.

Tell us, though, would you like to see Hailee Steinfeld or Elle Fanning play Supergirl in the DCEU? If not, who would be your choice? Sound off in the comments section below.
