Will Tony Stark Become A Father In Avengers: Endgame?

Whatever happens in Avengers: Endgame, it's sure to shake up the status quo in the MCU for years to come. What with the film practically confirmed as the final appearance of Chris Evans' Steve Rogers/Captain America, it being strongly rumored to feature the death or retirement of Tony Stark, and also that at some point, a bunch of dead people are going to come back to life. But on top of that, there's another fan theory with a bit of weight behind it: that Tony Stark will have become a father.

Bear in mind that Stark and Pepper Potts were talking about the future of their relationship at the beginning of Infinity War, with Stark saying: I dreamt we had a kid. It was so real. We named him after your eccentric uncle. Uh, what was his name?” Potts responds, “Morgan.” That’s a curiously specific name to drop so casually for no reason, isn’t it?

Adding further fuel to the fire is an interview Gwyneth Paltrow did in May of last year, where she casually said:

“Pepper and Tony have had a really long journey together. She obviously starts as his dutiful assistant, and then the relationship evolves, and now this decade later they’re married, and they have a child. Their relationship has evolved in all of the ways that great romances evolve.”

So, what’s going on here? Well, my bet is that Paltrow was already pregnant when Stark flew into space, ending up stranded on Titan. It’s going to take him some time to return to Earth, by which point, Potts may have given birth and the child could be a few years old already.

If the rumors of time travel are true, there’s a possibility it could lead to the gut-wrenching decision for Iron Man to undo everything that Thanos did and resurrect all his victims but erase his child from the timeline. That, or having a cute Stark moppet on the scene would really crank up the tears if he does go on to make some kind of heroic sacrifice.

Either way, we’ll find out when Avengers: Endgame hits cinemas on April 26th.
