Much digital ink has been spilled over the identity of Woody Harrelson’s Venom character.

Late last year, for instance, the Solo: A Star Wars Story actor and all-around industry veteran had reportedly joined Ruben Fleischer’s reboot as just another henchman, though fans aren’t convinced.

Not only do we expect an actor of Harrelson’s caliber to assume control of bigger, more prominent role, but there’ve been mooted reports that Woody Harrelson is actually playing Cletus Kasady – the sly supervillain better known to you, I and the corporate shills of the Life Corporation as Carnage.

Be that as it may, while promoting Solo, Harrelson confirmed that he’ll likely return for future Venom movies – just don’t expect him to receive much screentime in October.

I’m in a little fraction of this movie, but I’ll be in the next one, you know? So I haven’t read that script, but anyways, just rolled the dice.

Truth be told, it’s hard to see this as anything other than smoke and mirrors, as Harrelson is likely playing coy about his true role in Venom so that the film’s plot remains under lock and key.

On a more general note, and during that same interview with Collider, the actor identified Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer as one of the motivating reasons for climbing aboard.

Well, you know, Ruben Fleischer did Zombieland, directed it, so that was a big part of it. And also, Tom Hardy, I really respect and think he’s one of the great actors. So that, coupled with what is a really wonderful script, I felt like I kind of should, you know?

Venom will be with us on October 5th.
