First came the comparisons to James Bond, after comic book scribe Chris Claremont suggested that Simon Kinberg’s star-studded sequel is all set to become the Casino Royale of superhero movies. It certainly aligns with those claims that Dark Phoenix has what it takes to “revolutionize” the genre itself, as fans look forward to the movie adaptation of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s famous comic book with a hushed sense of excitement.

But with the pic’s November release quickly approaching, folks are getting eager for something tangible to feast on. Some footage, a few new photos, a poster – anything, really. And though it may still be a while yet before we get something official, a set pic has surfaced today which seems to show off the team’s new threads.

You can check it out down in the gallery below alongside those aforementioned action shots:

Though blurry and far from the best quality, we can make out Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Quicksilver (Evan Peters), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), Beast (Nicholas Hoult) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence). While we can’t tell you the context of the scene they’re shooting, what’s particularly interesting about this shot is that it shows off the gang’s newly designed costumes. Admittedly, they’re not terribly different to what we saw in First Class, but they’re certainly a departure from Apocalypse and if you squint hard enough, it looks as if there’s a yellow ‘X’ across the chest – which is a nice touch.

That aside, we can’t glean too much else from this latest set snap, but what we do know is that the film is set some 10 years after the events of the aforementioned Apocalypse and kicks into gear when Jean’s blasted by a stray solar flare, igniting a “malevolent, power-hungry new force” within the unsuspecting mutant.

Aiming to “revolutionize” the superhero genre as we know it, X-Men: Dark Phoenix has been angled for a release on November 2nd.
