A newly announced documentary titled What We Started is gearing up to offer the definitive account of the rise of EDM. Presented by Bert Marcus Productions, the film has secured Martin Garrix and Carl Cox to help shape the story. Award winning filmmaker Bert Marcus will write, direct and produce What We Started, while legendary DJ Pete Tong has signed on as executive producer and music supervisor.

What We Started will juxtapose the stories of one of dance music’s most respected veterans with one of its fastest growing stars, with Carl Cox and Martin Garrix serving as the documentary’s leads. The film seeks to set the record straight on the past, present and future of EDM while offering up a rare insight into a culture that has often been misunderstood by the public.

In a quote, Pete Tong explained that What We Started is “a film that honors the spirit of and gives a discerning perspective on different generations of this movement in an unprecedented way and leads you on a globe-trotting journey that explores a dynamic and multi-layered industry.”

In addition to Martin Garrix and Carl Cox, heavyweight DJs like Steve Angello, Moby, Sasha, David Guetta, Usher, Ed Sheeran and more will appear in the film. With plenty of star power to back it up, What We Started is shaping up to be a must watch documentary for dance music fans.
