Porter Robinson shook up the EDM community in 2014 with the release of his debut studio album Worlds, a record that challenged the limits of dance music while proving the producer as one of electronic music’s brightest artists. In the aftermath of the album’s release, Robinson embarked on tour with an ambitious new live show, but over the last two years fans couldn’t help but wonder when we would be graced with new material.
Over the weekend at Electric Forest, Robinson seemed to finally answer this call, unveiling a live edit of “Shepherdess,” an exclusive from the Worlds vinyl release, while premiering something entirely new. The new ID sounds like a continuation of the style developed on Worlds, with rapid 8-bit arppegios, dreamy melodies and massive percussion.
It’s unknown when or where the ID will surface, but Porter Robinson fans definitely have something to look forward to. The producer took to Twitter earlier in the year to reveal that he was moving past some writer’s block, and the presence of new material in his set bodes well that the wait for new music may be coming to a close.
Everything is going to take some time, but if I’m quiet for the next while, know that I’m working hard and excitedly.
