A woman attending the Grand Rapids Applebutter Fest in Ohio allegedly found live worms in a piece of fudge she bought at the event. According to The Nerd Stash, she made the discovery two days after buying the treat from a vendor.
Emily, known as em.like.emily on TikTok, documented the experience in a video. She typically uses her account to share content about her family, friends, and ducks; however, this latest post became her most viral video to date.
According to Emily, the incident began when she visited the festival and bought fudge from Toujours Chocolat Chocolates, a business based in Flint, Michigan. Emily says she is a frequent buyer of their products, often seeking them out at local events like this and apparently bought three pieces for $20 as part of a bundle deal.
She reportedly spotted the worms right before taking a bite
According to Emily, two days later, she reportedly sat down to enjoy the dessert. However, before taking a bite, she claims to have noticed the fudge had a “powdery” and “gritty” appearance, which prompted her to take a closer look. As she inspected it, she said she realized the odd texture came from worms moving through the fudge.
Emily said she decided not to eat any part of the fudge after the discovery. She said she didn’t even want to eat the other two pieces from the bundle, since she had no way of knowing whether worms had tunneled through them too. “I don’t know if they have all kinds of tunnels through here, but I’m totally grossed out,” Emily said.
The video drew mixed reactions. Many shared her disgust, with one commenter writing that this was exactly why they avoid homemade food from people they don’t know. Others, however, argued that she should have contacted the seller privately instead of posting the fudge online.
Some defended her decision to go public, as the video could warn anyone who bought the same fudge to check it before eating. The video joins a string of recent food scares shared on TikTok, including a mother and daughter’s In-N-Out visit that ended with a live worm in a lettuce wrap.
Larger chains have reportedly dealt with similar problems, as fresh ingredients can carry pests into finished meals. Investigators traced a parasite outbreak at Taco Bell back to shredded lettuce served at the chain.
In a follow-up video, Emily claims she had reached out to Toujours Chocolat Chocolates. According to her, the vendor allegedly asked her to send the fudge in for inspection and said it would inspect all its products.
