Online shopping is built on the simple rule that what you tap on your screen is what should land on your front porch. But when retailers inevitably drop the ball, customers at least expect them to quickly right the wrong. Yet, Arkansas creator Kristen (@kristenclairesophia) says Walmart left her stuck in a cycle of refusals after her Father’s Day desk chair order went wrong.
In a blistering TikTok recap, Kristen broke down her infuriating experience of trying to recover $106.49 after Walmart allegedly delivered her a wrong product. She claimed that an innocent holiday gift order from Walmart unraveled into an insulting customer service loop that left her empty-handed and out of pocket.
“After waiting, I got no money back. I am livid. I’m stuck with this propane tank hose… oh, and I’m down $100. Walmart, do better,” she announced in her video.
A desk chair order from Walmart yielded a grill accessory instead
The alleged ordeal began when Kristen ordered her father a brand-new desk chair for Father’s Day from Walmart online. Looking forward to surprising him, she tracked the delivery until the box finally arrived on her doorstep. However, peeling open the shipping container revealed a bizarre mismatch. Wrong deliveries aren’t unheard of, as another Arkansas woman found when she ordered paper towels and detergent but got someone else’s haul.
Instead of an ergonomic office chair, the box allegedly contained a single Blackstone propane adapter hose. Although this ruined her Father’s Day gift already, she at least hoped for Walmart to resolve the obvious mix-up. So, she immediately jumped online to initiate a return.
But things allegedly got worse from there. Instead of a helpful representative, she reportedly found herself stuck in an automated loop with an artificial intelligence chat agent that flatly rejected her return request. Even when she finally managed to reach a human support agent, they allegedly approached her with a dismissive attitude.
According to Kristen, it was only after she threatened to permanently boycott Walmart that the agent finally sent over return instructions. They then reassured her that she could bring the incorrect item to any physical location for an immediate resolution.
Walmart’s in-store management refused a return for the missing product
Following corporate’s digital instructions, Kristen said she took the propane hose to her local store on the way to work. But when she approached the customer service desk to explain the mistake, the staff member allegedly shut down the transaction. “I tell the customer service person that this is what I got, and she goes, ‘Well, we can’t do that.’ I was like, ‘Well, I want my $100 back.’”
Kristen then reportedly stood by for over fifteen minutes waiting for a team lead to intervene. She anticipated that management would quickly identify the fulfillment error, take back the propane hose, and process her rightful refund. But shattering all her expectations, the store’s leadership reportedly took a hostile stance.
According to Kristen’s on-screen notes, the employee accused her of being dishonest. She’s not the only shopper to say so, as one Florida customer claimed Walmart staff called him a liar during a money order dispute. They reportedly argued that they could not accept the return because the value of a small propane hose did not match the purchase price of the furniture piece.
At the end, the store allegedly refused to process the return and informed Kristen that she was simply out the $106.49. Now, she was stuck with a grill hose she never ordered and stood stripped of her refund. Kristen voiced her outrage over Walmart’s refusal to take basic accountability.
“I worked retail for six years, I get it,” Kristen noted in her video. “Where I worked, if you got the wrong thing… you got the right product or you got your money back.” The story reflects only Kristen’s account, and Walmart has not publicly responded to her video.
