Woman upgrades to Uber Comfort for one big reason, ends up getting ambushed by driver as soon as she sat inside: ‘So much for the quiet preference’

This is why you need to carry headphones.

Everyone expects a rideshare for the morning commute to be a seamless buffer between their home and the workday. For passengers willing to pay a little extra, platforms like Uber even offer “Quiet Preference” settings to minimize small talk.

But for content creator Tinibee (@twinkletee22), booking a ride tailored for silence allegedly resulted in an unsolicited ranting session instead. In a TikTok video, Tinibee recounted an early-morning Uber Comfort ride where her driver rendered an in-app feature useless within seconds of her closing the passenger door.

What makes it worse is Tinibee only chose Uber Comfort over the regular ride to exercise that quiet preferred feature. However, her driver allegedly took her preference as a challenge instead. She ended up getting treated like a captive confessional booth and her ride derailed into a barrage of medical venting, relationship grievances, and domestic monologues.

Selecting the quiet preference on Uber Comfort backfired immediately upon boarding

Tinibee explained that on the fateful day, she needed a ride to her job and noticed that Uber Comfort was priced nearly identically to the standard economy option. So, she selected Comfort specifically to take advantage of the custom ride settings. “I remember I like Uber Comfort because it has an option to hit quiet preference,” she explained.

Tinibee noted that she simply wanted a peaceful ride with “no funny business in between.” However, the silence reportedly shattered the moment her driver, Jason, pulled up to the curb. As she sat in, she offered a polite greeting and thanked him for the pickup. But little did she know that she inadvertently handed the driver an open microphone.

“That gave him the opening for him to then rant about his health insurance and how it got canceled… all while also talking about the girlfriend that he has, that he keeps saying is ‘useless’ and doesn’t do anything because ‘she’s just so useless, I just do everything for her.’”

Moments after Tinibee settled down, Jason allegedly launched into a detailed, deeply personal monologue. According to her, he began venting about his health insurance being canceled, the logistical headache of reinstating it, and his ongoing battle to secure prior authorization for his Mounjaro prescription to treat his diabetes.

If that wasn’t enough unloading, his medical complaints quickly pivoted into domestic complaints. Tinibee said that Jason openly degraded his partner, repeatedly calling her “useless” and whining that he had to manage all the chores alone.

Tinibee tested the driver’s urge to talk right before getting off

After listening to his endless complaints, Tinibee was determined to stop the oversharing. So, she deployed the classic disengaged passenger strategy and offered only monotone, one-word acknowledgments. After five straight “mhm” responses, Jason finally took the hint.

Jason reportedly stopped talking and the second half of the commute lapsed into peaceful silence. Yet, as the vehicle neared her workplace, curiosity got the better of her. Wondering if the driver was simply incapable of holding back conversation, Tinibee decided to run a quick social experiment.

With about a minute left on the trip, she offered a harmless, neutral observation about the overcast sky. “I was like, ‘Oh, those cloud—it looks like it’s probably going to rain today.’” And Tinibee turned out to be right. The casual weather comment proved to be all the fuel Jason needed.

After hearing Tinibee speak, Jason reportedly reignited the monologue. He began rambling again, this time about his personal culinary preferences, explaining that he preferred cooking dinner rather than breakfast. Then he circled right back to complaining about his girlfriend’s lack of help.

After about a minute, Tinibee reached her workplace and promptly exited the vehicle. Meanwhile her driver still seemed oblivious to the setting she had selected before he arrived. Tinibee ended the video stressing on the irony and remarked, “So much for the quiet preference.”

While Tinibee didn’t pay a premium price for the setting that Jason so casually disregarded, others usually have to. Her commute highlights a recurring frustration for passengers who pay a premium for silence. If drivers overlook rider settings, it negates the practical utility of paying extra for specialized service tiers.
