Workers who clash with their bosses often look for small ways to push back. A 21-year-old barista at a golf course coffee shop in Australia says she has found hers, and it reportedly involves eating the pink marshmallows meant for her manager’s daily hot chocolate. She described his management style as frustrating in a Reddit post by u/Hidden_Misc in r/pettyrevenge.
The barista says her biggest complaint centers on scheduling. She claims her manager assigned her morning shifts seven days in a row, even though she usually works part-time hours around her university studies. She is also reportedly working through a painful rolled ankle and a busy events calendar, as summer heat apparently makes conditions harder.
Her manager reportedly orders a hot chocolate topped with two pink marshmallows every day. She says eating them lets her vent without risking her job. “I just got off my shift after eating a good portion of our pink marshmallows and thought you people might like some petty revenge,” the barista wrote.
She feels vindicated on the days the pink marshmallows run out
The results of the snack-based protest reportedly vary from day to day. According to the barista, sometimes the manager settles for white marshmallows, while other times he opens a new bag to secure the pink marshmallows he prefers. On some days, the manager in charge of inventory forgets to reorder, which apparently leaves him with no marshmallows.
The barista says those days are the most satisfying, and she has described feeling vindicated. “I feel real vindicated those days,” the barista wrote. However, the manager appears to remain unaware of why his supply of pink marshmallows keeps shrinking, as she has seemingly kept the routine to herself.
Commenters on the post have largely backed her. One person called the act “Petty in pink,” while another urged her to “dine on in solidarity against the man.” Someone else described it as “Sweet fluffy revenge,” as many readers seemed to enjoy how low the protest’s stakes seemed.
Workplace revenge stories tend to draw large audiences online. One employee reportedly answered a denied expense with a hotel laundry bill that cost his company far more. At the same time, a fired TikToker spilled his former manager’s secrets in a viral video. However, the barista’s version seems far gentler than either case.
Despite the friction, the barista says she generally enjoys her job at the golf course. She describes her coworkers as nice, and she gets to see her dad every Saturday when he comes to play. She says that makes it a decent job overall, even when the scheduling becomes a struggle.
