Although there aren't a huge amount of genuinely exciting racing simulators out there, the few that stand out are exceptional. Not the least of these is GRID, the Codemasters release which still stands the test of time four years later. But for those of us still gripping our sweaty controllers, it looks like we've got something to get excited about: Codemasters has officially announced the release of GRID 2, which is due out sometime in 2013.

Although there aren’t a huge amount of genuinely exciting racing simulators out there, the few that stand out are exceptional. Not the least of these is GRID, the Codemasters release which still stands the test of time four years later. But for those of us still gripping our sweaty controllers, it looks like we’ve got something to get excited about: Codemasters has officially announced the release of GRID 2, which is due out sometime in 2013.

Set to launch for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, GRID 2 will bring back the award-winning technology that powered the first iteration, providing gamers with more of the intense, pulse-pouding races they’ve come to expect from the series.

Check out some quotes from executive producer Clive Moody below to see what to expect:

“GRID’s back and we’re going to make street, track and road racing exciting again,” said Clive Moody, Executive Producer. “The core design philosophy for GRID 2 is that we treat the race as a character, not a consequence of simply putting cars on tracks. Everything that goes into the game impacts on that second-to-second, in the moment, blockbuster drama – the feel and personality of the race.”

“We’re pushing boundaries once again with what can be accomplished in the genre via new tools, technology and innovations. In single-player, split-screen and online, the next-generation of the EGO Game Technology Platform will power graphics, AI, handling and damage advancements that will immerse players in the racing experience like never before. Like its predecessor, GRID 2 will put the sheer thrill and adrenaline rush of the race at the heart of the experience. It’s what we call Total Race Day Immersion.”

As Moody has stated, single-player, split-screen and online modes will be available to play, as well as many new locales for racers to run through. As always, keep an eye posted for more GRID 2 news here, and let us know how stoked you are to get behind the wheel again!
