Meghan Markle’s ‘appalling’ greed questioned as it trumps her ‘hate’ for the Royal Family

The Duchess keeps on clinging to royal perks despite trashing the monarchy.

Meghan Markle packed her bags and bolted from Britain five years ago, but she apparently forgot to leave her royal titles behind. Multiple sources claim the Duchess of Sussex seems to be having a hard time letting go of her royal status, so she continues to use her “HRH” or “Her Royal Highness” styling on her family’s stationery.

When Markle, 43, and Prince Harry, 40, stepped down as senior royals and moved to the U.S. in February 2020, they created this huge divide between them and the Royal Family that ditching their royal titles would seem like the most rational thing to do. The couple even agreed to no longer use their HRH titles after becoming non-working royals during their negotiations with the late Queen Elizabeth. However, it appears the former actress and her husband have not been keeping their word.

According to a source who spoke with Page Six, the entire Sussex family, including the royal children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, still have the HRH styling on the letterhead of their stationery. Because of this, insiders have called out Markle, who has made it clear on more than one occasion how much she hates the institution. “Meghan hates the royal family and U.K., yet flouts [the HRH] for her personal gain. It’s appalling. Everything about her is a contradiction,” one royal insider said.

Even more eyebrow-raising is how Harry and Meghan allegedly insist on being called “Ma’am” and “Sir” by their staffers. During their travels, they also get addressed using their HRH titles, although a source has clarified that they never insist on this. It just naturally happens out of the people’s respect for their royal status. “[Meghan] has embraced the [royal] platform and hierarchy, but it just doesn’t translate in the U.S. It’s weird to refer to your team as ‘private office’ and ask them to call you Sir and Ma’am. Heaven forbid she just asks people to call her ‘Meghan,’” the source said.

Why Meghan and Harry could lose their royal titles

Aside from the couple’s detractors, another person who is finding fault with how Markle keeps using the HRH styling to her benefit is Prince William. The heir to the British kingdom is said to be planning how to strip both his sister-in-law and his brother of their HRH status once he ascends to the throne. An anonymous tipster told The Daily Beast that because William “loathes” Marke, he’s been itching to make this his first royal decree.

Meanwhile, Harry considers the whole fuss over their HRH titles “ridiculous,” for he feels entitled to the styling since he was born into it. But palace insiders contend the restriction was imposed “for this very kind of issue” — to avoid brand-boosting and commercial confusion.

All this commotion started when Markle sent beauty mogul Jamie Kern Lima a gift basket with a note signed, “With Compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex.” This exposed her supposed greed to enjoy the perks of having royal titles despite painting the Royal Family in a bad light for years. Though Buckingham Palace refused to comment on the issue, many have come out to slam Markle’s hypocrisy, including royal biographer Hugo Vickers, who said, “She has no respect for any decision that anybody made — [including] the queen … it’s so bad.”
