Mexican TV show kicks drone into model’s face, says it ‘must be my new shoes’

The model returned moments letter, flashing a bloody smile.

A comedy show host kicked a production drone on live TV, sending the device straight into a model’s face before blaming the mishap on his shoes. Ernesto Chavana, host of Mexico’s Es Show, kicked the drone during Monday’s broadcast, and it struck Isabella “La Colombiana” Rojas, leaving the stage model with a bloodied mouth, according to The Sun. The 58-year-old Mexican television host was taping a live segment when he pelted a drone flying out of frustration. The device ricocheted off the face of the Colombian model, who covered her bloodied face and appeared to be in pain.

Castmates escorted Rojas off the set before paramedics treated her off-camera. She returned to the air moments later, flashed a bloody smile, and revealed her injuries were minor. As gasping audience members looked on, Chavana was heard telling staff, “See what you have done,” in a bizarre attempt to avoid blame before offering an on-air apology and claiming his shoes may be at fault.

“I’m very sorry. I am responsible for what just happened,” said Chavana, per Dextero. “I feel very ashamed and embarrassed for what I have just done. I kicked this thing they put in front of me… I don’t know, maybe it was my new shoes.”

TV host fully owns up to his mistake

The following day, Chavana apologized again to reassert that he is holding himself accountable for the blunder. The production team for Canal 6 — which carries Es Show — plans to cover Rojas’ medical expenses and other damages, according to Mexican outlet Crónica.

“Here I am to face up to it,” he said in a video posted on X by POSTA. “I am not hiding. I am aware of the mistake I made yesterday by kicking a drone during a situation that came up on the program,” he continued. “I offered apologies to Isabella on air, and I took full responsibility for the event.”

Social media users quickly commented on the viral clip, expressing outrage and claiming Ernesto should bear the cost. One commenter said: “I don’t know who he is, but what a disgusting person; he shouldn’t be the host of a show; he should pay for the moral and physical damages.” Another said: “Reckless, get him out.”

Es Show, or Es Show de Monterrey, is a popular late-night Spanish-language comedy and variety show broadcast in Monterrey, Mexico, featuring a mix of comedy sketches, dance numbers, games, and interviews. Chavana, a well-known figure on Mexican television, has hosted the program since its inception in 2016. Rojas, meanwhile, rose to prominence as a content creator before joining Es Show, where she quickly became a prominent cast member.
