On June 3, drum and bass artist Netsky will drop his third studio album, appropriately titled 3. The Belgian producer debuted a new collaborative single from the effort titled “TNT” on NPR, featuring electronic funk duo Chromeo. Sonically, it’s a blend of Chromeo’s trademark funk driven electronic music and uplifting drum and bass.

“TNT” opens with a vintage guitar interlude, setting the mood for the eclectic single. Netsky augments the funk and soul inspired elements with rapid fire drum work and sliding basslines, resulting in a groovy composition accompanied by Chromeo’s catchy vocal hooks. Around the halfway mark, the energy breaks down leaving an ambient synth pad to fill the space alongside a gentle vocoder.

“TNT” ends on a high note with a retro synth solo and another run through the chorus. The blend of funk and drum and bass is unexpected, but the musical forces behind the track somehow manage to pull it off.

Netsky‘s upcoming album 3 is available for pre-order now and can be purchased here.
