Marvel Comics Turns Peggy Carter Into Captain America In Exiles

One of the most beautiful things the comic book world has ever given us is that of the storytelling possibilities yielded by alternate realities. To the delight of countless readers, both DC and Marvel have wowed us in the past with radically different takes on their heroes and villains with Elseworlds and What Ifs.

Actually, DC has somewhat kept this tradition alive in recent memory via the evil Batmen seen in Dark Nights: Metal and its orbiting one-shots, and with the two Harley Quinns running around in Batman: White Knight. That said, it’s great to see Marvel keeping up with Exiles.

Now, what makes this particular book especially cool is that it’s actually uniting characters from various universes! In the latest iteration of the series coming to us by way of writer Saladin Ahmed and artist Javier Rodriguez, we’re able to enjoy different takes on the likes of Kamala Kahn and Blink, among others.

But one that’s sure to have people talking is that of Peggy Carter, who’s actually wielding the shield as Captain America! That’s right, the very woman that won over fans thanks to Hayley Atwell’s big and small screen performances is the Sentinel of Liberty in an alternate universe – and she’s not afraid to fight alongside a cutesy Wolverine that looks like a feral Mega Man.

CAPTAIN CARTER KILLS THE RED SKULL!
That’s her mission, anyway! The fan-favorite Captain America — Peggy Carter of the Marvel Puzzle Quest game — faces off against an apocalyptically armed Red Skull! And the Exiles are just in time to join the fight — ’cuz they’ve been kicked off their mission! There’s a new team of Watchers in town, and they’re cracking down on the Exiles’ interference in the timestream — even if it means the death of everything. Can the Exiles salvage Peggy Carter’s world, fix the Tallus and get back to saving reality before the Time-Eater tracks them down again?

Exiles #3 arrives in comic shops on May 9.
