A Texas couple is recovering in hospital after the taco truck they ran together mysteriously burst into flames and exploded.
People reports that on the morning of June 4 Tim and Tiffany Pastrana were prepping food for the day when their truck exploded.
According to Tiffany, the explosion threw the couple in opposite directions: him towards the truck’s exit and leaving her pinned against a wall inside. With the truck engulfed in flames, Tim faced a potentially agonizing decision: save himself without major in,,jury or plunge into the flames to rescue his wife.
According to Tiffany, he didn’t hesitate and stepped into “hell” to save her:
“I want to take a moment to recognize my husband who was the first person in the line of many to save my life. From the force of the explosion I was blown back against the far wall where our sinks are and I was trapped. He was blown towards the door Tim could’ve easily ran out but chose to come back and get me and drag me out having to go through the explosion that was hell before busting us both through the door.”
Tim and Tiffany were immediately flown by helicopter to a hospital in Nashville, where they are receiving treatment for “severe 2nd and 3rd degree burns”. Their daughter Jada has set up a GoFundMe for them, on which she writes that both her parents are “alert, breathing, and talking”, but she expects they will be hospitalized “for a few months”.
“Tim and I are survivors”
Images posted to the GoFundMe show the couple holding hands in hospital as they mark their 25th wedding anniversary together. Tiffany is lying in a hospital bed with bandages to her face and arms, while Tim’s hands and legs are bandaged.
In a June 8 update from Tiffany, she thanks everyone for their love and support:
“Tim and I are survivors and we are in the process of surviving. We will always be forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support. Thank you guys from the bottom of our hearts. As of now we have both undergone our first surgery and everything is going as expected.
We need to express our heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you who has helped us. … A huge shout out to the Huntingdon EMS, Firefighters, Police officers, customers and every single person who helped us to survive this ordeal. … With the help of God all of you guys and these fantastic nurses doctors and surgeons we are gonna be okay.”
As of the most recent update, posted today, the couple is photographed together undergoing physical therapy while preparing for further skin grafts.
