The Rock takes us to big bass class

He's just an ordinary fishing guy!

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is enjoying his fourth-of-July holiday weekend in the most relaxing way, with several afternoons spent by the water, fishing, and offering a lesson to his followers on his social media channels. That’s right — if you’ve ever found yourself interested in big bass fishing, Johnson has quite a knack for it, and he’s showing us the ropes.

A multi-talent in his own right, Johnson’s adding excellent (and passionate) fisherman to his already lengthy resume should serve as no surprise to anyone; the guy does everything well, but it certainly serves as a really fun look at someone who thoroughly enjoys spending time near the water, interacting with animals.

He’s got a lot in common with Maui from Moana, doesn’t he?

He gives a bit of advice to anyone planning on fishing this weekend, explaining the catch of the massive bass he smiles next to at the end of the following video:

“I waited for her to stalk that baitfish at the mouth of the lake, driving them back into the inlet. One cast about 3 feet in front of where I THINK she’s going – let it drop for a few seconds, a few cranks like a jerk bait, slow roll it, patience….BOOM! I’m using light tackle, and with a big bass like this, I don’t try and horse em onto the bank, so I’ll always get in the water to lip em. Hope you guys get some good fishing in this holiday weekend and enjoy your 4th 🇺🇸 🥃 🎣🐷”

Talk about patience paying off!

In another post he shared on Instagram, Johnson says that a recent bass he caught didn’t just take the lure; she destroyed it, but he found a way to help her break free and explained why the sport is so important to him. It’s not something he participates in, Johnson has been working with lake management science teams to provide the best ecosystem for the fish to live in, and he always puts them back after he catches them, often helping them back in the water in the form of climbing in with them.

“Fishing (and enjoying my land) is my favorite thing to do. Fishing lets me slow down from the craziness of life. I have a few properties with acres of water where I stock and raise fish. Largemouth bass, stripers, trout, sunfish, etc. I also have big, ugly, pissed-off snapping turtles that’ll bite your fingers off, so be careful 🤣🤚🏾🐢 For 15+ years now I’ve worked closely with lake management science teams to create the most optimal ecosystem for the fish to thrive. Learned a lot 🐟 Cool stuff 👍🏾 I don’t eat ‘em. I always put ‘em back. Yup, I usually get in the water to help the fish with their lactic acid buildup in their muscles (just like humans after a hard workout) so I can help ease oxygen back into their gills.”

In learning more about their ecosystem, what it takes for them to thrive, and in giving himself the patience to learn the skill of fishing, Johnson is connecting with the world around him in a way that many relate to. Over the holiday weekend, if you head down to your local fishing spot, you’re sure to find a lot of relaxation, enjoyment, and fishing to go around.

Here’s to Johnson for giving us a leg up on our regular fishing partners; what can he say except ‘You’re welcome?’
