Trump announces new “Super Intelligence Force,” and names a top intelligence official to lead it

The AI force will lead America globally.

Earlier last month, Trump mentioned that he will create a new ‘AI Force’ amid the rising concerns about the rapid pace of AI development. He then met with the tech leaders of six companies at the White House summit, including Sundar Pichai, Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, and Dario Amodei, and signed an accord that laid down standards on ways to self-regulate their technology. It also promised that the tech will be developed and used responsibly and will be open to external audits.

Over the weekend, the President announced the formation of an AI task force called the ‘Super Intelligence Task Force.’ The force will work to promote AI dominance with the main aim of protecting American lives and interests, as reported by ABC News.

Jay Clayton, the National Intelligence Director, is set to lead the new force, along with some other prominent members, the Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson, Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael, and Director of the Office of Personnel Management Scott Kupor. The force will work to regulate the artificial intelligence technology on a state level.

America wants to lead the world in Super Intelligence

Trump says that the era of Super Intelligence is going to be far bigger than the industrial revolution. For that, it is important that America stays on top of it, he said in a post made on Truth Social.

“The Super Intelligence Force will coordinate the Federal Government’s engagement with Consumers, Public Interest Groups, Religious Organizations, Critical Infrastructure Providers, and Super Intelligence Companies,” Trump added. However, the announcement was short on some key details, such as a coherent guideline or the specific actions the newly-formed force will follow.

Clayton, who is expected to serve as White House’s new AI czar, told The Wall Street Journal that “The risk of not being first is high.” He added that “Not being first increases the identified, and unidentified, risks, particularly from our adversaries. Being first will better enable us to address those risks on behalf of the American people.”

He also expressed his confidence in the members selected for the force, saying that these people are equipped with ‘diverse skill sets’ and have ‘common commitments.’ “These are all serious people who have addressed opportunities and risks in the past and are committed to doing this so that America wins the AI race and we win it through the benefit of the American people,” he added.
