‘We’re just following orders’: ICE Gestapo raid church to snatch Christians fleeing religious persecution

They fled persecution to worship Christ, and this is what Trump did to them.

After the last few months, we shouldn’t be surprised by the moral abyss that is ICE. With a daily quota to fill, masked and anonymous ICE agents have been terrorizing people up and down the nation: smashing into workplaces, homes, colleges, and universities to scoop up everyone they can.

But, even by ICE standards, their latest disgrace is beyond the pale and even the agents involved seem ashamed of themselves. That’s because, like something out of Ancient Rome, they just burst into a church and snatched Christian refugees escaping religious persecution.

The incident took place in West Los Angeles and involved Iranian Christians who’d successfully claimed asylum in the United States on the basis that the repressive Islamist regime in their home country wouldn’t let them worship Christ in peace. They were here legally, had followed every requirement asked of them, and represented everything that the asylum system is supposed to achieve.

As reported on Christianity Today, ICE agents swooped in to drag away a husband and wife who’d been part of his congregation for a year. In a disturbing video, the masked men in tactical gear and ignore the pleas of their Pastor, Asa Torosian, refuse to explain where the couple is being taken, and the last we hear of the woman is her terrified screams.

The only justification the men provide is that “we’re just following orders”. Huh, interesting defense. Torosian tells the men: “They came here for freedom, not like this. I know you are doing your job, but shame on you. Shame on this government.”

What Would Jesus do?

There’s a sick irony in Christians fleeing a repressive regime at great danger to themselves, following the law of the United States and legally claiming asylum, then discovering to their horror that they’re going to be persecuted just as hard under Trump as they were under the Ayatollah. Presumably, the plan is to send this unfortunate couple back to Iran, where they face certain imprisonment and possible execution for their attempted defection.

If you’re a proudly Christian Trump supporter, this is about the time you should be feeling some very uncomfortable feelings. The Bible and the stories of the saints are full of stories of Christian refugees suffering for their faith in God, generally meeting unpleasant ends at the hands of barbaric soldiers.

Well, the United States is now in the position of persecuting Christians for believing in God and delivering them to be eaten by the metaphorical lions. If you’re a believer, ask What Would Jesus Do? if confronted with this?
