A woman has reportedly turned to Reddit for advice after her boyfriend allegedly put her through a loyalty test for a YouTube video, leaving her feeling blindsided despite being told she had passed. According to her post, the 25-year-old had been dating her 28-year-old boyfriend for about a year, and she believed their relationship was going well before the unexpected test.
The woman claimed that a man was hired to test her and repeatedly made advances toward her, but she allegedly refused to flirt and made it clear she already had a boyfriend. The situation reportedly took a sudden turn when the YouTuber and the rest of the crew appeared to reveal the setup.
According to her account, her boyfriend seemed happy with the result and tried to hug her after learning she had passed. However, she claimed she was shocked and humiliated by the reveal, so she “pushed him away and walked off.” She also apparently “knew this was going to be on YouTube,” so she did not want to give the crew the dramatic reaction they may have expected.
He might be insecure
She reportedly told her boyfriend that “the relationship ended the minute you decided to put me on a loyalty test.” He allegedly responded by calling her dramatic and arguing that she had no reason to be upset because she had passed, which just made things worse for her.
The woman said she agreed to speak privately with her boyfriend the following day, only to discover that he had already discussed the situation with their friends and her family. According to her, he called people or showed her their messages during the conversation to “back him up,” while they reportedly argued that she was overreacting and should be happy that he now knew she would not cheat.
“Yes, I love him and have considered that in the future, but I felt completely invalidated,” she claimed. When she asked why he had arranged the test, her boyfriend allegedly explained that his ex-girlfriend had cheated on him multiple times with coworkers. The woman said this appeared to contradict his earlier account that the previous relationship had ended mutually and without drama.
She also suggested that her recent job change may have contributed to his concerns. Having previously spent much of her time at home working remotely, she was now leaving the house more often and meeting new people. She suspected that these circumstances may have reminded him of his ex’s infidelity, although she said she had not realized he had trust issues.
The woman reportedly asked for space after their conversation and was still receiving messages from people who believed she was being irrational. She added that her boyfriend had since told her not to worry about the video because the channel reportedly only posts failed loyalty tests.
In a later update, the woman claimed that she got in contact with the man’s ex-girlfriend, who reportedly told her that the guy cheated on her with multiple women and also recorded several of their conversations, while lying about many things to her. The ex-girlfriend claimed that he broke up with her when he allegedly caught her going through his phone.
Learning this, the user reportedly broke up with her boyfriend despite allegedly receiving several “explanation” texts from him. She asserted that “I’m glad I’m moving on from this mess. I’m officially single and staying that way for a while.”
Speaking about loyalty tests, Amy Chan, a dating coach, advises against them. “When you hire someone to test your partner’s loyalty, you’re already operating from a foundation of suspicion rather than trust. This approach doesn’t build security − it erodes it. It introduces deception into the relationship and, ironically, makes you the one engaging in dishonest behavior while claiming to seek honesty,” she said in an interview with USA Today.
