A woman recently shared a terrifying experience after catching her partner at a strip club, which she claims led to physical violence and threats involving their children. According to her Reddit post in r/AmIOverreacting, the situation reportedly unfolded this past weekend while the couple stayed at a hotel for a friend’s wedding.
After they shared an intimate moment, the partner said he went outside to smoke a cigarette. According to the woman, she fell asleep but woke at 2:00 AM to find him missing. She went to the strip club next to the hotel and said she found him there.
The discovery was apparently painful, as they had discussed the strip club earlier that day. She had even offered to go with him if he wanted to visit. However, he allegedly chose to sneak out while she was asleep.
She says he has snuck off to a strip club like this before
This was not an isolated incident, as she claims he had snuck out to a strip club twice over the past year. Those previous instances reportedly caused enough trouble that the couple had to work through the issue in therapy to set clear boundaries.
When she confronted him outside the strip club, she said she hit his chest with her purse in anger. Once they returned to their hotel room, the argument intensified rapidly. He allegedly insulted her by comparing her to her sister, someone he has never met.
She kept pressing him on why his behavior was unacceptable, and he allegedly threatened the stability of their home and family life. The woman claims he told her, “What do you want to do, sell the house and I buy you out? You won’t see the kids again.”
Threats involving children are a recognized tactic in abusive relationships, according to the National Domestic Violence Hotline. The organization says abusive partners may warn that they will take custody of the children if the relationship ends. It describes this as one way a partner may try to gain power and control.
The situation allegedly turned physical during the argument when he smacked her in the neck. She said she called him out for hitting her. However, he reportedly tried to justify it by claiming she hit him first, as she had swung her purse at him outside the strip club. She said she felt so unsafe that she ordered an Uber and traveled home in the middle of the night.
Commenters have largely rallied behind her. “Slapping you is a hard guarantee that you WILL see the kids, full time,” one Reddit user wrote, urging her to let him buy her out. Another person noted that the couple apparently is not legally married, which could make it easier for her to leave. A third commenter described his alleged behavior as emotional abuse and urged her to get a lawyer.
