Wrong-way driver in Tampa offers cop a credit card and a bookstore gift card. He wasn’t buying it

She had no business driving.

A Florida woman was charged with driving under the influence after a strange traffic stop in Tampa, where she repeatedly failed to hand over her driver’s license to a deputy. Kami Ellis, 52, was pulled over by a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputy at 12:30 a.m. after she was seen driving the wrong way down the road and jumping a curb.

According to The New York Post, the whole interaction was caught on body camera footage shared on the department’s Facebook page. When the deputy first approached the vehicle, he asked, “You feeling okay?” Ellis responded, “Yeah, I’m good.” It was clear from the video that she had serious trouble operating her vehicle, and the deputy eventually had to ask her if she knew how to shut off the car.

After she finally managed to turn the engine off, the deputy asked her for her license. Instead of handing over the right document, she gave him a credit card. The deputy pointed out the mistake, telling her, “That’s your credit card.” Ellis then reached into her belongings and handed him a Barnes & Noble gift card. The deputy had to clarify again, saying, “That’s a Barnes & Noble gift card.”

The body camera footage showed just how severely alcohol had impaired her basic judgment

Once she got out of the vehicle, things became even harder for her. The deputy asked her to take a step forward, but she struggled to keep her balance. He told her to put her glasses back on before eventually instructing her to place her hands behind her back, and she was then placed in handcuffs. Florida has seen no shortage of bizarre incidents lately, like this Florida woman’s shocking Airbnb experience involving blood-covered walls.

An arrest report later showed just how intoxicated she was at the time of the stop. Ellis blew a blood alcohol content of 0.204 and 0.209, which is more than twice the legal limit in Florida. Ellis had been seen driving the wrong way and jumping a curb before being stopped, putting other drivers on the road at serious risk.

The fact that she could not identify her own license, credit card, or gift card during the stop showed how heavily the alcohol had affected her. Florida continues to make headlines for all kinds of outrageous behavior, including a woman’s outrageous demand involving her ex-husband’s girlfriend.

Following the arrest, Ellis was charged with driving under the influence. She was later released from custody on a $1,000 bond. The case is a clear reminder of the dangers of getting behind the wheel after drinking. Ellis will likely face legal consequences from these charges in the coming months.
