Donald Trump’s ‘peace deal’ collapses as Iran attacks resume, Hormuz to remain closed, price of food and gas to increase

US Military fires missiles, assures us this doesn't break ceasefire.

Donald Trump‘s much vaunted “peace deal” that’d end his war with Iran is only missing two teeny details. There’s no peace and no deal.

Over the weekend, it appeared that an agreement was close, though as rumors spread through Washington about what Trump had conceded to Iran alarm spread amongst hawkish Republicans that Iran would come out of the conflict stronger.

Israel was also reportedly alarmed that Trump’s peace deal would mean they’d have to stop attacking Lebanon and were aghast at the notion of embargoes being lifted against Iranian exports.

Right now, we can’t know what pressure was placed on Trump behind-the-scenes, but his peace deal now appears to be dead in the water.

In its place is a (probably intentionally) unworkable set of proposals that lets Israel not only do whatever it wants to its neighbors, but demands all Middle Eastern countries (even Iran!) betray the Palestinians and sign the Abraham Accords to normalize relations with Israel. This is politically and morally unworkable, meaning these new demands are likely purely to save face and try to pass the buck away from Trump.

Peace is getting further away by the minute

If you didn’t need it once again underlined that Trump’s “peace” is a mirage, the United States has just launched another wave of strikes against suspected Iranian missile sites and mine-laying vessels (try not to hit any elementary schools this time, guys!). In an absurd twist, US Centcom argued firing multiple missiles at Iran didn’t mean the “ceasefire” was over. I guess I’m the moron for assuming a ceasefire would involve ceasing fire.

The justification these are purely defensive actions. I guess America must defend itself against the Iranian military that Trump has been insisting for weeks has been completely obliterated.

What all this really means is that Trump’s war with Iran isn’t going to be over anytime soon. Expect the Strait of Hormuz to remain closed, expect gas prices to steadily rise beyond their already eye-watering level, and the general cost of doing literally anything to go up.

Who knows, maybe one day Trump’s crack team of diplomatic negotiators will be able to hammer out a deal that opens the Strait of Hormuz. Y’know, the same Strait of Hormuz that was completely open to ships before Trump kicked off this insanely stupid war that’s achieving absolutely nothing.
