Elon Musk’s own brainchild now haunting him as it broke free from his control with ‘consequences’

Building America’s Future, a political action committee supported by Elon Musk, is spending more than $1 million to promote recent White House legislative victories. The 30-second advertisement will run nationally on Fox News and congratulates President Donald Trump on the passage of major Republican domestic policy legislation.

According to Politico, the PAC’s promotional campaign focuses on what Republicans call their “One Big, Beautiful Bill,” which extends Trump’s 2017 tax cuts and includes other GOP policy priorities. The legislation comes at the cost of nearly $1 trillion in projected Medicaid cuts over the coming years.

Notably, Musk himself previously criticized this same legislation harshly, once calling it “a disgusting abomination” when it was making its way through Congress. The Tesla CEO and former Trump administration employee had strong words for the megabill during the legislative process.

Musk’s opposition to the bill he now helps promote

When the legislation was being debated in Congress, Musk took a firm stance against it. He described the bill as “utterly insane and destructive” and made significant threats regarding Republican lawmakers who supported it. The world’s richest man promised to fund primary challengers against all Republicans who voted for the measure.

Musk’s opposition to the bill was so strong that he declared the arrival of a “new America Party” after Trump signed the legislation into law. This public disagreement created a notable rift between Musk and the Trump administration, with Trump privately questioning Musk’s behavior during the summer months.

The tension between the two escalated to the point where Trump responded by threatening Musk’s government contracts. During this period of conflict, Musk made a controversial statement suggesting that Trump was mentioned in the Jeffrey Epstein files, adding another layer to their public dispute.

Despite Musk’s personal opposition to the legislation, the PAC he has financially supported takes a completely different position. The advertisement, titled “Independence,” is scheduled to debut on Monday and presents the bill in positive terms. It states that “This Independence Day, President Trump and Congress made the working family tax cuts law.”

The ad highlights several policy elements, including the elimination of taxes on tips and overtime pay, a doubling of the child tax credit, and tax cuts for seniors. According to the advertisement, “Republicans know that our country is better off when working families keep more of what they earn.”

Generra Peck, senior advisor to Building America’s Future, expressed strong support for the legislation despite Musk’s previous criticism. Peck praised the efforts of President Trump, Senate Leader John Thune, and House Speaker Mike Johnson, saying they “showed tremendous strength and vision to get historic tax cuts for working families across the finish line this summer.” The PAC advisor described the achievement as remarkable and predicted it would “put America on a path to prosperity for years to come.”
