You might think being one of the richest men in the world would give you a license to speak your mind. But, apparently, even being so rich you can literally hire Venice (as in, the city) for your wedding doesn’t stop you from having to get on your knees and engage in some serious brown-nosing.
Enter Jeff Bezos, who, in a new interview, swallowed his pride and suppressed his gag reflex long enough to say this about Donald Trump:
Bezos on Trump: "I think he's a more mature, more disciplined version of himself than he was in his first term. Trump has lots of good ideas. He's been right about a lot of things. You have to give him credit where credit is due." pic.twitter.com/VPyFUGRJZs

“I think he’s a more mature, more disciplined version of himself than he was in his first term. I’ve worked with all the presidents, I will work with all the presidents and I hope to do that going forward if they’ll have me.”
Bezos then took a suspiciously presidential candidate-sounding note, claiming that “I’m on the side of America” and saying he’s non-partisan. He then proceeded to show us all just how non-partisan he is:
“Trump has lots of good ideas. He’s been right about a lot of things. You have to give him credit where credit is due.”
Lie back and think of Amazon’s profits…
Jeff, are… these good ideas in the room with us right now? Because it kinda sorta seems like every idea that slithers out of his rat’s nest of a brain makes life for everyone gradually worse and everything more expensive. Sure, give him credit where credit’s due, but for most people, that means angrily shaking their fist in his direction when they fill their tank with gas!
But, of course, Bezos is well aware that Trump is a dangerously stupid lunatic who doesn’t know what he’s doing. Even without getting into the economic weeds, a cold, hard reality for Bezos is that every extra dollar Americans have to spend on gasoline is a dollar that’s not being spent on Amazon.
Unfortunately for Bezos, Trump is one of the few men on Earth with the capacity to properly impact his bottom line. If Trump decided he wanted to punish Bezos, he could, in a matter of hours, inflict serious damage on Amazon with a series of executive orders that’d drive up their cost of doing business.
Worse, Bezos is also aware that Amazon isn’t exactly the most popular company in the world, so Trump cracking down on him would be met with widespread cheers.
And that’s how we get a supposedly “powerful” man pursing his lips, saying embarrassing things he knows make him look ridiculous, and grovelling before Trump. As fellow multibillionaire Elon Musk knows all too well, money can buy an awful lot of things, but it can’t buy dignity.
