Kash Patel announced a new Most Wanted fugitive, but reporter says the FBI adds people whose capture is imminent: ‘Gaming the system’

Ken Dilanian, who works for MS NOW, wrote on X on Tuesday that the FBI under President Donald Trump is “gaming the system.” He shared a post from FBI Director Kash Patel announcing a new name on the Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list and highlighting recent captures.

Patel wrote that the bureau had “historic success manhunting Ten Most Wanted fugitives.” He said that since the start of the Trump administration, the FBI had captured 10 of the Top Ten Most Wanted. Patel stated that total was 2.5 times the number captured during the previous four years combined.

The new listing Patel posted was Satinderjeet Singh. Patel wrote that Singh is wanted for alleged involvement in the Lawrence Bishnoi Organized Crime Group and is based in the United States. He described Singh as the alleged leader of that group in North America.

Patel said the group has allegedly taken part in a range of violent acts in Southern California and across the United States and Canada. Those acts, he wrote, include assassinations of political and religious figures, shootings, murders, kidnappings, extortions, assaults, and the trafficking of narcotics and weapons.

Patel wrote that Singh is charged with racketeer influenced and corrupt organizations conspiracy. He also listed conspiracy to interfere and attempted interference with commerce by extortion, and conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $1,000,000 for information leading to Singh’s arrest, Patel stated. He pointed people to 1-800-CALL-FBI or tips.fbi.gov and tagged the FBI Los Angeles office. Patel’s public-facing role at the FBI has drawn scrutiny, such as when a GOP senator questioned his hiring policy changes.

Dilanian said FBI officials have told MS NOW that the bureau has been placing people on the Most Wanted list whose capture is believed to be imminent. He wrote, “In other words, these officials tell us – they are gaming the system.”

Dilanian added that one fugitive was captured in Mexico an hour and 13 minutes after being placed on the list. He noted that Patel touted Singh’s capture just over one hour after Singh was added.

MS NOW had earlier reported in May that officials described the bureau under Patel as engaging in stat padding with the Most Wanted list. This pattern of inflating metrics extends to other claims, such as when Patel said he boosted the bureau’s AI use by 605% without explaining how that number was measured. Dilanian’s Tuesday post repeated that officials say names are added when an arrest is already believed to be close.
