Kevin O’Leary, the man who’s pushing for tax breaks on his $100 billion data center, tells Gen Z they should stop spending $28 on lunch

Kevin O'Leary patronized Gen Z for eating lunch.

Kevin O’Leary has a reputation as a ruthless billionaire, (is there any other kind?) Turns out his persona on Shark Tank wasn’t a persona after all. Lately he’s been pushing to build the world’s biggest AI data center in Utah, something which will undoubtedly result in deprivation in the surrounding area. At the same time O’Leary has been mocking poor people for paying for expensive lunches, the hypocrisy is unreal.

In a viral clip O’Leary calls out Gen Z making $70k a year for, in his words, “spending $28 dollars for lunch,” going on to say “that’s just stupid.”

So is O’Leary speaking facts? Or is he just another out of touch billionaire? Well statistics do show that Gen Z tend to eat out more than previous generations but when boomers and Gen X have destroyed the economy and made well and truly sure we’ll never be able to afford our own homes or true economic freedom you can hardly blame us for wanting to spend what little money we have on some comfort food?

Lunch isn’t the problem, people like Kevin O’Leary are

This is the same old tired argument that has been used by the older generations to avoid responsibility for years. One opinion piece from The Hill, which holds such reverence for the Shark Tank entrepreneur it almost borders on satire, suggests grocery shopping and making lunch at home to save money, but that’s hardly going to allow any Gen Z to suddenly afford their own home.

Being patronized by someone like Kevin O’Leary is where we should draw the line. He preaches about how we should spend our money and yet, he’s been begging for tax breaks on his $100 billion AI data center which he insists absolutely needs to be built. He’s gone on the record stating that Utah taxpayers should subsidize the project which will no doubt result in severe water scarcity in the area as every other data center has.

On X people could barely contain their rage, one person claimed O’Leary was destroying the states with his “mass surveillance centers for his own profit as he tells an entire generation to stop eating lunch because they don’t get paid enough for their work.” Honestly, couldn’t have put it better myself.

All this so that he can build something nobody wants and continue to hoard wealth that he doesn’t need. But sure, the problem with society today is that younger people are spending a little too much money on lunch. Maybe if all billionaires were less concerned with avoiding tax and more concerned with actually investing in their then maybe lunch wouldn’t be so expensive for the younger generations.
