A Texas bakery has been the subject of a great deal of national attention after the owner made a 4th of July post claiming that they were embarrassed by the state of the country. The politically charged message apparently resulted in a wave of new customers, but it also allegedly brought plenty of negativity from the MAGA crowd too.
The Hive Bakery, is a small business run by “two time Food Network Champion” Haley Popp which offers “scratch made desserts,” to patrons in Flower Mound, Texas. But recently it’s become known to people across the U.S. after a social media post from the Bakery claimed to be “embarrassed, afraid, and disappointed in what this country has become.”
The post continued, labeling MAGA a “cult of unintelligent, rabid, immoral sycophants.” The bakery owner called out those that still support the president and announced that “we refuse to observe this holiday,” referring to July 4.
Hive Bakery makes headlines with the controversial post
The post received a great deal of attention, both bad and good. The New York Post reported on negative comments which were left on the Hive Bakery’s social media accounts. “Hope your place burns to the ground. You deserve it. F—ing leftist.” reads one comment shared in a screenshot, “With a post like this, I will never patronize your business,” another person wrote.
The Texas-based business has allegedly been inundated with phone calls as well. On the bakery’s TikTok account Haley Popp recorded herself responding to the supposed calls which she claims are coming from MAGA supporters.
Rather than let the negative calls take a toll she chose to, in her words, “ragebait the ragebaiters.” She can be heard telling one caller who apparently told her that the business was going to “go down hard,” that “we have a line out the door.” During another call she tells the person on the other end, “we love America that’s why we fight for it.”
The video shows plenty more calls from supposedly angry MAGA supporters but rather than ignoring them or getting upset Popp remains calm. She also humorously notes how “old people are so angry.”
It’s not all negative
Of course, that’s just one side of the story. The Hive Bakery also received plenty of positive attention from people who agreed with the message. Popp claims to have received a wave of support with a huge increase in customers coming to the bakery. On the Bakery’s TikTok account Popp shared another video in which she took calls from people allegedly phoning in to voice their support for her business.
Comments on the bakery’s socials prove that some people resonated with the message. “[T]tempted to get in the car and drive 12 hours for some Hive goodies,” one commenter wrote underneath the post that started it all.
