Trump says he’s offered Dana White the job of White House press secretary. He also asked the UFC chief to bring a roster of fighters as ‘assistants’

The White House has lacked a lasting press secretary since Karoline Leavitt left

President Trump announced on Saturday that he has offered Dana White the position of White House press secretary. White serves as president and CEO of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Trump made the claim in a post on his Truth Social account.

Trump wrote that he is “pleased to announce that the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior, has been offered the job of Press Secretary of the United States.” He also stated that he asked White to bring along assistants. “I have requested that he bring with him assistants, even though some are not from our Country, of Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, and Kayla Harris,” the post continued.

Trump added, “We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left. Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other. Dana, please take the job!” Whether White has agreed to take the role is not clear. Soon after the post appeared, The Hill reports, White shared an Instagram story image of himself standing at the podium in the White House press briefing room. The caption said, “On to the next chapter.” He followed that with a second story containing a screenshot of Trump’s full statement.

UFC chief posts White House podium photo and president’s announcement on Instagram

White’s first Instagram story showed him at the briefing room podium that press secretaries normally use. The second story displayed Trump’s Truth Social text offering him the job and naming the fighters. The posts appeared shortly after the president’s announcement.

The White House-linked account Rapid Response 47 placed a screenshot of the same Truth Social post on X. Officials at the White House did not give an immediate reply when The Hill asked them to confirm the offer.

White and Trump have stayed close in recent years. This past summer, UFC staged a fight on the South Lawn of the White House, which a UFC star labeled ‘The Hunger Games for billionaires’. The bout formed part of events marking America’s 250th anniversary. Andrew Schleimer, who leads the company that owns UFC, said the event resulted in a $30 million loss.

Paramount+ carried the fight exclusively. Among those present were Paramount CEO David Ellison, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and other well-known guests.

The administration has sought a lasting press secretary since Karoline Leavitt stepped down earlier this year. Trump later chose commentator Katie Zacharia for the post. She lasted under a week and held just one brief briefing. She departed after reports surfaced that she had described herself as an attorney without having passed the bar exam.

A number of people around the president entered government work without prior political careers. Still, selecting White would mark an unusual pick for the role.
