Bride fakes being drunk at her wedding to hide her ‘secret,’ spins a whole new story when she is almost busted: ‘My friends still haven’t forgave me’

Even her best friend hasn't forgiven her.

It is not often that a bride has to pull off the performance of a lifetime while walking down the aisle. However, that is exactly what Martrice Stevenson did. The 30-year-old TikToker recently took to TikTok to share the story of how she acted drunk at her own wedding to hide the fact that she was eight weeks pregnant from her friends and family. As she put it in her post, “My friends still haven’t forgave me” for the elaborate ruse.

In her first video, Stevenson shares a photo from the wedding of her and her husband drinking from a champagne tower, alongside a clip of them in a convertible. The on-screen text reads, “Our wedding day lore: I was already 8 weeks pregnant.” In the caption, she points out, “If you look close enough at the champagne tower, you’ll notice that my drink is just juice!!”

She followed that up with a second video where she shares clips of herself acting intoxicated while recounting the experience. She noted that she had to act drunk because “if I did not pretend like I was drunk at my wedding, my friends would have definitely known that I was pregnant. Like my friends were talking about drinking at the wedding months before the wedding even started. They were like, can’t wait to get drunk with you. I mean, I am a really good time. ”

She remembers she “felt like such a fraud”

According to PEOPLE, Stevenson explained that the only people who knew at the time were her husband, their wedding planner, and their wedding photographer. They had discovered the news just two weeks before the big day and wanted to keep it private. Keeping the secret required some serious logistics. Of course, sometimes, women don’t know they are pregnant, like a Massachusetts woman who gave birth in an ambulance to a miracle baby.

Stevenson confided in her planner. They then coordinated with the bartender to ensure the bride was served alcohol-free versions of her favorite margaritas all night long. Even the champagne tower was reportedly filled with sparkling cider so she could blend in with the rest of the guests. In another case of a crazy pregnancy, an Alabama woman had to cancel her courthouse wedding because of pregnancy complications. So the hospital helped her host one before she gave birth.

Things almost went wrong at the rehearsal dinner. Per the outlet, a waitress accidentally served Stevenson an alcoholic drink, which forced the bride to improvise immediately. “I blamed it on wedding-day jitters, claiming my stomach was in knots and I couldn’t stomach alcohol,” she told PEOPLE. “My friends questioned me for a bit, but they eventually bought the excuse that I was just incredibly nervous. My maid of honor ended up drinking it for me!”

Stevenson shared that her friends had spent months looking forward to partying with her, making the deception feel necessary. She admits it was tempting to just tell them. However, she wanted to hold that secret close to her and her husband for as long as possible. When they finally announced the pregnancy at the 12-week mark, she says everyone’s jaws dropped as they did the math and realized she had been pregnant at the wedding.

“My friends all know that my ultimate ‘go-to’ drunk dance move is throwing one hand way up in the air while tearing up the dance floor,” she mentioned to the outlet. “So, I just kept my hand in the air all night long. It totally worked—they loved it!”

The Oscar goes to… ME. 🏆 Fake-drinking sparkling cider out of a champagne flute while your entire extended family watches is a level of cardio I was not prepared for. I felt like such a fraud 🤣. Anyone else have a massive secret on their big day?? 👇 #storytime #weddingtok #brideproblems #confession#greenscreenvideo

Ironically, the morning after the wedding, her first-trimester sickness hit her hard. While her guests were dealing with actual hangovers, she was experiencing morning sickness, which only helped sell the ruse. In her TikTok caption, she joked, “The Oscar goes to… ME. Fake-drinking sparkling cider out of a champagne flute while your entire extended family watches is a level of cardio I was not prepared for. I felt like such a fraud.”

Her best friend even chimed in on the comments of her post to chide her. They wrote, “As her best friend I haven’t forgave nor forgotten… and I’m the one that’s hella observant. I can’t believe the one time she tricked me she got away with it.” Stevenson responded, “I’m sooo sorry!!!! If it makes you feel any better it was so hard keeping such a big secret from you LMAO!!!”

Looking back, Stevenson says the experience was surprisingly special. Being sober allowed her to be fully present for every moment of her big day without a buzz. She noted it helped create a memory that was both hilarious and meaningful. As she told PEOPLE, “It was a beautiful reminder that I don’t need alcohol to have the best time.”
