Chipotle customer learns the hard way why ordering online is a bad idea as the manager’s response leaves him fuming

The manager said it with a straight face.

A Pittsburgh man ordered double chicken in his Chipotle burrito bowl, but was shocked by what he received. When he confronted the manager about the missing protein, he was told the chicken was simply hiding under the lettuce.

The customer, TikTok creator Sam (@sam.pittsburgh), couldn’t let the issue go after getting his online order. He drove straight to the location to show the staff what he received. “This is why I never put in an online order at Chipotle, and I always go [in person]. Because anytime that you ask for anything at Chipotle, they think they can skimp you out,” he said, according to Bro Bible

When Sam showed the bowl on video, it was clear why he was upset. The bowl had large piles of lettuce with only about four tiny pieces of chicken underneath. According to Chipotle’s website, a standard scoop of protein should be 4 ounces, meaning a double order should be 8 ounces. Sam believed he got barely one scoop at best.

The manager’s excuse doesn’t make sense to frustrated customers

Sam explained the confrontation with the manager. “I look the manager dead in the face, ‘This doesn’t look like double chicken,'” he said. “‘When I come here in person, and you put double chicken in my bowl, the whole bowl gets filled with chicken. Where’s the chicken here?'” The manager insisted the double portion was there and told him, “It’s under the lettuce.”

The situation got worse when Sam realized he forgot to order a tortilla. He asked for one on the side, and the employees charged him an extra 50 cents for it. Sam was angry and said, “You really need that 50 cents after you just skimped me out of $3.30 of chicken? Pittsburgh Chipotle, do better.”

Sam isn’t the only one frustrated with this issue. For years, the chain has faced complaints about small portions. While some customers resort to questionable tactics to get free food, Sam simply wanted what he paid for. The company’s response has been confusing. They first denied any problem, but in 2024, then-CEO Brian Niccol admitted that some locations were giving customers less food because of poor training.

Many customers have shared their experiences online. One viewer commented: “They set a standard before that they’re not honoring now. I remember the days when the container was heaping with food. They charge the same or more, and deliver less.” Customers have come up with ways to get the proper amount of protein without being shorted. Some have even discovered creative drink hacks at Chipotle that sparked debate online.

One popular trick is to order a single scoop first and let the employee add it to the bowl. Once the first scoop is in, ask for double. This way, the worker has to match the size of the first scoop, so you get a proper second portion. Another viewer said their spouse always waits to say “double” until after the first scoop is in the bowl, because otherwise the worker makes the first scoop smaller.
