College student says a night out for drinks with their professor during midterms turned into a ‘conflict of interest’

“Opens Reddit.”

A college student who returned to school after a two-year break says a close working relationship with a professor took an unexpected turn during midterms. According to a post on Reddit by u/isatorez in r/confession, the pair reportedly got drunk on a night out and went back to his home to sleep together.

The student claimed that they had been working closely with a teacher they remembered from their first year. Because the student was dealing with personal issues, the professor allegedly allowed them to complete a research project instead of the final assignments. This arrangement reportedly led to frequent coffee meetings and long conversations that moved on to politics and pop culture.

The relationship apparently grew closer as they exchanged numbers and talked more often. The student mentioned a specific phone call where they both apparently fell asleep on the line. Shortly after, the professor reportedly invited the student out for drinks to take a break from midterm stress.

The professor apparently told the student they probably wouldn’t get in trouble

During the night out, the student said the pair got drunk and the physical dynamic shifted once they left the bar. The student claimed they kissed and eventually went back to the teacher’s home, describing the night as amazing. The reality reportedly set in the next morning.

The student now appears worried about a conflict of interest, particularly as the professor already granted an academic accommodation for the coursework. When they discussed the encounter, he reportedly seemed scattered and said he had never hooked up with a student before.

He also apparently suggested that since the semester is only halfway finished, they probably would not get into any trouble. The student admitted to feeling a mix of fear and excitement over the secret. However, they insisted they would keep quiet, writing, “I don’t plan on spreading the word or anything but i’m stressed.”

The post drew attention from other Reddit users, and some were blunt about the potential fallout. “Maybe focus on your studies and not f—ing your professor,” one user wrote, before also mocking the student’s writing. Another commenter claimed a friend who was a professor slept with a student and that it eventually ended his career.

Other commenters pointed out the irony of posting such a private story on a public forum. “‘I don’t plan on spreading the word’ opens Reddit,” one user remarked. “Your professor is reading this right now sweating bullets,” another person added.
