Entitled girlfriend runs ‘relationship test’ with one astronomical bill, her man gets advice to ‘run, FAR & FAST’

She wondered if he was "generous and capable of providing under pressure?"

A man recently took to Reddit to share the story of a dinner outing that went south when his girlfriend decided to conduct a so-called relationship test using his bank account. The situation, which involved a hefty $340 bill, has sparked a massive reaction from the community, and it is safe to say that most people think he made the right call by refusing to pay for everyone.

The drama started when the 25-year-old girlfriend brought two of her friends along to a dinner that was supposed to be a simple outing. Per The Daily Dot, before they even left the house, she told him, “Don’t embarrass me by acting cheap tonight.” He assumed it was just a joke at the time, but the reality of the situation became clear once they were at the restaurant.

Her friends, who had no intention of paying for their own meals, proceeded to order cocktails, appetizers, and desserts, even as the Redditor kept his own order reasonable to save money. The final bill still climbed to $340, so he told her before the waiter arrived that he was only willing to cover their meals and not the entire table. She responded that a “real man” would not make a big deal out of it. Despite that, he asked the waiter to split the bill four ways anyway.

To no one’s surprise, the women did not take kindly to that

The mood at the table shifted instantly, and the friends went silent as the request was made. Things then reached a breaking point later that night when the girlfriend revealed that the entire ordeal was a relationship test. She claimed she wanted to check if he was “generous and capable of providing under pressure.”

The man told her clearly that he was not interested in being evaluated, and he noted that if covering her friends had been important to her, it should have been discussed beforehand. He went on to report that since that night, she has barely spoken to him, and her friends have been calling him broke and childish.

The Reddit community has been incredibly supportive of the man, with the vast majority of commenters siding with him. One commenter wrote, “Nah bro, SHE is the childish one,” and added, “Run, FAR & FAST, like yesterday!”

Others pointed out the manipulative nature of the behavior, with one user noting, “Not to mention ordering appetizers and just trying to run the bill up. They did that on purpose.” It is wild to think that someone would intentionally set up a scenario like this to test a partner.

Unfortunately, the moderators have deleted the post for unknown reasons, so we have no more details. However, the conversations left behind show just how strongly the story resonated with everyone. Even without the post, all we can do is wait to see if an update will come up, to know if he continued the relationship, despite the test.
