Flight attendant tells couple she can’t serve drinks before their 20-minute flight. Then she catches the woman’s husband allegedly recording her

A first-class fuss

A flight attendant shared on Reddit that she told a first-class couple she could not offer pre-departure drinks on their roughly 20-minute flight because of limited time. She wrote that she later saw the woman’s husband holding his phone toward her with the camera app open.

She described holding boarding on the jet bridge for about 12 minutes while catering and cleaning finished. After a few more minutes for pre-board passengers, she said it was roughly 15 minutes before departure.

At 11 minutes before departure, she wrote that a first-class passenger asked if pre-departure beverages would be offered. The flight attendant said she would not have the opportunity that day. According to her post, the passenger replied, “Oh sure, it’s just we do this route all the time and some flight attendants do and some flight attendants don’t!” The attendant explained she was already running behind with boarding and apologized. She said the passenger responded, “it’s fine sweetie!”

Flight attendant describes the phone incident and later passenger support

Boarding then finished, the attendant wrote. After her announcement, she walked through the cabin and saw the woman’s husband sitting next to her. She described him with his phone out and arms stretched in her direction, matching a common meme image. She said that when he set the phone down, the camera app was open. This isn’t the first time cabin crew have dealt with this, as seen in the case of a first-class passenger secretly filming a flight attendant.

She stopped and asked, “excuse me sir, was that a photo of me?” According to her account, he answered, “who knows?” She requested that he not take photos of cabin crew, explaining it was against airline policy. She wrote that he asked, “why is that?” and she repeated the policy reason. He then said, “that’s fine I won’t do anything with it then.”

The attendant said she elaborated that limited boarding time meant she could not safely or efficiently serve pre-departure beverages to everyone. She wrote that he replied, “well, it depends on the flight attendant.” She stated it depended on factors such as those that evening, which prevented the service.

According to the post, he said, “well I didn’t start this conversation.” She reiterated that he had told her he took a photograph without consent, which went against policy, and apologized again for the lack of pre-departure service.

She wrote that she continued with her duties. The couple did not speak to her for the rest of the flight. When they deplaned, she said a couple of people sitting a few rows behind them in first class handed her a note with their contact information. They apologized on behalf of the couple and told her to reach out if she needed support.

The flight attendant posted that this was her first experience with someone photographing her over not receiving a soda before a short flight. She wrote that her pilots asked if she wanted the passengers removed, though she did not think the situation warranted it. She also said she filed a report and contacted her airline’s support center, which told her she had nothing to be concerned about and apologized to her.

In the comments on the post, one flight attendant wrote, “Glad I’m based in Europe where I can ask them to show me their phone, remove them for taking pictures of me and submit an unruly report…” Another commenter stated, “If they won’t listen to you for basic requests, can you be certain that they’ll be responsible enough to listen to you in an emergency without question?”

A different flight attendant shared, “Anytime I have a negative interaction where the passenger seems upset by my enforcement of the rules, I write that report with every d–n detail before they can even think to contact the airline.” One person noted, “Shout out to the witnesses for stepping up in support! Some people can never be happy.” Confrontations like this can wear crews down, as with one attendant who said being screamed at by passengers broke her spirit.
