A Fort Lauderdale Airport traveler said he stopped at a Delta Sky Club for coffee and then noticed how the lounge appeared to store the milk for its machines. Brian David, who posts on TikTok as @hotmessxpresurself, shared a video of the coffee station that he said left him concerned.
On-screen text in the video read, “Oh don’t get milk with your coffee at the @delta sky club.” In the caption, he wrote, “Was at the delta sky club and noticed they store the milk for the coffee machines in non-refrigerated cabinets.” The clip had gained 237,500 views.
The video first showed a coffee station with three machines on the counter. Below the counter, a cabinet door was open. Two large plastic jugs of 2% Reduced Fat Milk sat inside. A blue tube ran from one machine into the top of one jug, which he indicated was supplying milk to the machine.
Federal guidance lists how long milk can stay refrigerated
Two male staff members in black uniforms appeared near the machines. One wore a long black apron and stood upright. The other bent down by the open cabinet and appeared to handle the jugs or equipment behind them.
The camera then zoomed in on the jugs on a raised platform inside the cabinet. David indicated that the cabinet did not look like a refrigerated unit. He suggested that placement raised questions about the milk’s temperature. David did not say how long the jugs had been in the cabinet or what temperature the milk reached.
According to the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service guidance, milk can be refrigerated at 40 degrees Fahrenheit for seven days. Buttermilk can stay in the refrigerator about two weeks. Milk or buttermilk may be frozen for about three months. Yogurt can be stored in the refrigerator one to two weeks or frozen at 0 degrees Fahrenheit for one to two months.
Viewers offered mixed reactions. Some treated the open cabinet as a sanitation problem. Others said the milk sat in a cooler that staff had pulled out while swapping equipment. One commenter called the situation unsanitary and wrote, “Spoiled milk is crazy that is not sanitary.” Another suggested documenting it and wrote, “take pictures to send to the health dept.”
A third focused on temperature and wrote, “The problem is that gallon of milk sitting is room temp and will make you sick.” For Delta, customer service issues have surfaced before, like when a woman waited on a plane while the airline questioned her boyfriend’s ticket.
Other viewers said the setup looked normal for a coffee machine. One asked, “Were yall expecting a cow to be down there? What do you think the machine is pulling the milk from??” Another wrote, “Don’t see anything wrong that bottom section is cold what’s the issue.”
A further commenter said a cooler was visible and wrote, “See that little metal box open behind it that is a fridge and it sits inside of it they had it removed to put in a new one as seen the full gallon next to it.” Delta Sky Club access rules have frustrated some travelers, such as when a woman said she paid $800 for a basic economy ticket but was barred from entry with her Amex Platinum card.
