The gaming community seems to be rather annoyed by the latest announcement from GTA VI developers, Rockstar Games. They recently announced a new collector’s set, officially titled GTA 6: The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection. It’s packed with branded goodies, but it comes with a massive $400 price tag and, perhaps most controversially, doesn’t include a copy of the game.
Dino Roman, a popular Florida-based gaming and tech content creator, is one of those many people. In a video uploaded to Instagram and TikTok, with over 779K views, he reached out to his community in confusion. Per his bio, the creator describes himself as “the guy who occasionally gets kicked out to the garage for buying stuff without telling his wife.” However, this collection had him start the video with a blunt “woof,” while the overlay text asked, “is anyone buying this?”
Dino asked his followers, “So what are we doing here, guys? Are we buying this or not? I think we’re all on the same page. I think we’re all thinking of the same thing. But you guys know me. I’m the king of it. Doesn’t have to make sense. Give me 10,000 likes, I buy it anyways. But, man. Oh, this one’s a little bit different. $400 and it doesn’t even have the game. Where do we draw the line? I mean, it’s the collector’s edition for a video game, and it doesn’t have the game. What are we collecting? The wind?”
The outrage has been growing
The comments section was overwhelmingly against the collection. One Instagrammer was blunt, stating, “Boycott this crap… They’re insulting the intelligence of their own audience with this move. If you don’t buy it, trust me, thousands of others will follow your lead and refuse to buy this ridiculous Collector’s Edition. Gamers have always stood together. This time should be no different.”
Another user pointed out the absurdity of the content, noting, “Doesn’t have the game, But it has a coke spoon and razor to rack up your snow. Hard pass man, not everything has to be for content bro.”
This box is being released after a much-praised extended look on Netflix. IGN reported that the collection includes multiple Vice City-themed items, with premium additions, presumably of high quality, thanks to partnerships with brands like Oakley. The box contains a 6-inch figure of Macca the Gator with a stash compartment, matte black GTAVI Oakley Frogskins sunglasses, and a New Era 9FORTY A-Frame snapback hat.
It also includes a Macca the Gator magnetic mirror, a Vice City swizzle spoon, a Vice City razor blade keychain, a Leonida Keys crossbody bag, a Chunkee the Manatee shot glass, an enamel pin set, stickers, and a double-sided souvenir poster. This lineup, per IGN, triggered nostalgia for past Rockstar Collector boxes. Most fan feedback has been critical, seemingly noting a disconnect between price and value.
One fan told IGN, “If this was 2016, they’d have an Ultimate Edition for $129.99 that includes the game, the coke mirror, the snuff spoon, the razor keychain and a map, but we live in 2026 SuperHell.” Another fan mentioned, “I would’ve actually preferred a GTA 6 Collector’s Box similar to the one for Red Dead Redemption 2. It felt more connected to the game and the price point of around 100 bucks was also WAY MORE reasonable.”
TikTok was equally vocal on Dino’s post. One commenter told him, “Dude I would not, because the stuff that is even in it doesn’t even come close to the value of that cost. Not to mention even if the put a download code for the deluxe of the game it still is not close. This seems more like a scam than anything, or more of a new type of over price it, because it comes from a high value company.”
Another user noted that Dino’s hesitation is the sharpest critique of the box. They noted, “We got to a point when even Dino Roman thinks of something as ‘out of the line’. The king of going out of the line. Nuff said.”
Rockstar Games has currently ramped up their marketing in preparation for the much-anticipated November 19th release of GTA VI. IGN noted that they’ve even installed a massive “Welcome to Vice City” sign in Miami that reportedly cost nearly $1 million. For many fans, however, this merch box seems to be a miss.
“I mean, let me put things into perspective,” Dino told his viewers before pulling out some figures from past collections he had purchased to demonstrate the price-to-value difference, according to him. He claimed, “This is what collector’s edition used to look like. They’re not $400, and you get the game.”
Then he pointed to a screenshot of the gator figure, telling his viewers, “Now you get this without the game.”
