‘I’m having post nut clarity’: In a fit of boredom, woman decides to test if she actually has a nut allergy by eating an almond bar

“I do not recommend doing what I did.”

TikToker Marrisa Brignola (@rissybrig) just found a potentially dangerous way to resolve her boredom when she decided to test whether she was actually allergic to almonds by eating an entire almond bar while sitting in her car. The video, which already has 8.6 million views on TikTok, shows her narrating the entire process with the on-screen text of “my private story but it’s just me eating nuts to see if I’m really allergic,” and a subtitle that reads “death roulette.”

In the clip, Rissy waves the open bar around, laughing while saying, “I can see why my parents… Don’t like… Don’t like the fact that I live alone because… I got bored today, so I, I’m trying something with almonds in it, to see if I am really allergic.” She admits she just had a feeling she wasn’t allergic. After taking an initial bite and feeling fine, she decides to try another bite and points out a specific almond. “So, we’ll see if I die,” she jokes.

A few moments later, the tone shifts slightly as she realizes that she finished the bar. Rissy says, “Alright, I was really hungry, I WAS REALLY HUNGRY, I don’t know why I did that.” She quickly reassures the camera that she feels fine, but the realization of what she just did seems to hit her. By the end of the video, she is laughing uncontrollably, exclaiming, “I’m having like post…” before exclaiming, “POST NUT CLARITY!”

That went from ‘baby steps’ to ‘all in’ really quickly

The internet, as you might expect, had plenty to say about Rissy’s experiment. Some viewers were stuck on how funny they found her last comment. Others, however, were discussing how they would test their allergies. Inkerstheprune22 suggested a different testing method, saying, “I would never test my allergy on a protein bar, I would test it on a Macaron, I miss them everyday.” Rissy responded to that one by saying, “OMG S MACARON YOU R A GENIUS.”

Another user, 𝙆𝙖𝙩, wrote, “Hold on let me try this with pistachios real quick,” though Rissy was quick to caution her, “I do not recommend doing what I did.” Jai, on the other hand, had an important reminder: “Healthcare isn’t free in America either btw.”

According to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (AAAI), tree nut allergy is one of the nine most common food allergies, affecting roughly 0.5 to 1% of the U.S. population. The organization notes that tree nuts include almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, pecans, pistachios, and walnuts.

While some people might outgrow an allergy over time, this is something that requires professional medical supervision. The AAAI emphasizes that oral food challenges should only be performed in a medical facility equipped to recognize and treat severe allergic reactions, like anaphylaxis, under the care of an allergist.

Rissy’s video also sparked a debate if an almond is a nut, which, according to McGill University, it isn’t. Kiki-Fleur Oosthoek commented, “Almonds are not actually nuts tho…,” and Mom4boys added, “I think almonds are not real nuts? They are like a fruit but also classified as a tree nut for allergy purposes. So you may still be allergic! Please be careful!”

The AAAI clarifies that tree nuts grow on trees, while peanuts are actually legumes. They also point out that just because you are allergic to one tree nut, it doesn’t mean you are allergic to all of them, but cross-reactivity is a real risk.

Allergies can be life-threatening, which is why Kentucky is concerned, as a self-proclaimed ‘Peanut Butter Smearer’ is putting the nut butter on doorknobs across Somerset as a prank. Also, you can become allergic to something new, like red meat, if you get bitten by ticks.
