A TikTok creator who goes by Officially Eirene said she found a hard piece of plastic in her food after visiting a Red Lobster location in Maryland. She said she bit into the object during her first bite of leftovers and spit it out before swallowing.
Eirene said in the video that she visited the restaurant with four family members to try the chain’s seafood boil. She said staff told her the location did not have corn available, so she instead ordered the “Crab Your Way” option, paying an extra $5 for snow crab and additional sauces.
She said her family’s meal was marked by several service issues before the plastic was discovered, including drinks that arrived without garnishes and food she described as “ice cold.”
Woman says she bit into plastic after taking food home
Eirene said in the video that her mother’s margarita arrived without sugar, tajín, salt or lime, and had to be sent back once. She said when she asked a server about garnishes, she was told the restaurant did not have “saheen,” and that the drinks came back with only one lime between them.
She also said her mother’s drink arrived unfixed and containing a seed that was not supposed to be part of the beverage. Eirene said in the video that “all of our food came out ice cold,” a complaint her mother echoed off-camera, saying, “Yeah, there’s a lot of complaints on mine. It should come out hot, steaming, and ready. I should have known when them shrimp wasn’t right.”
According to Eirene, a server acknowledged the service issues and sent a manager to the table without being asked. She said the manager offered stuffed mushrooms as a courtesy, and she decided to take the rest of her meal home.
Eirene said that after warming up her leftovers, she took one bite and choked on a hard object. She said she did not break a tooth. “This is what I choked on,” she said in the video, adding that she did not know what the object was but believed it came from inside the mushrooms, since she said she was able to rule out the rice and shrimp scampi. Incidents like this have occurred at other chains, like a Maryland woman who needed a CT scan after biting into a foreign object in her sub.
In the video, she showed the object to her best friend, who touched it and said, “Yeah, got there, so feel it.” Her friend also joked, “That n—a said, I’m sick of y’all s–t.” Eirene then rinsed the object in a sink, describing it as “a hard round piece of plastic” and tapping it on a counter to show it was solid.
An off-screen voice in the video asked, “What the hell? In the middle of the food?” Her friend also noted the object appeared solid, saying, “It’s through and through. It’s not hollow. So you can snap it.”
Eirene said she emailed Red Lobster corporate and received a response the next morning. She said the company initially offered her a $100 gift card. According to Eirene, her bill totaled around $120, though a receipt shown in the video lists a check amount of $93.73, a $21 tip, and a total of $114.73.
Eirene said that as a former manager at a high-end restaurant, she felt she was entitled to more than a gift card given what she described as a hazardous item found in her food. She said she suggested a full refund instead, and said the company agreed to it. She said the company also asked her to return to Red Lobster for another visit.
At the end of the video, Eirene asked viewers whether they recognized the object or had experienced something similar, and asked whether she should give the restaurant another chance. Diners complaining about their meals at Red Lobster is not rare, as seen when a customer tried the chain’s seafood boil in Orlando.
The video drew a range of reactions in the comments section. One commenter wrote, “I can’t tell you what it is but it is a LAWSUIT!!!” Another said, “My food was cold when I went a few months ago too, and it took so long.” A third commenter wrote, “This is why I don’t eat there. Food is always cold.”
