She paid $38.90 for Olive Garden’s family meal. Then she realized something didn’t add up: ‘plus I gave a tip, obviously’

A TikTok creator who posts as Grandma Pam shared a video of an Olive Garden takeout order she described as a family meal. In the video, she said she had a family meal at Olive Garden that cost $38.90 and asked viewers to look at what came in the bags.

The video opened on a brown Olive Garden paper bag with the restaurant logo and text about delivery and online ordering. She then showed a cardboard box with a handle that also carried the Olive Garden logo and said she would start with a gallon of soup.

She said customers can get gnocchi soup, minestrone soup, zuppa, and one more kind she said she thought was available. “Um, we always get the gnocchi,” she said, before taking the lid off a large white container of creamy green soup.

Commenters said they expected pasta after the soup and breadsticks

Grandma Pam stirred the soup on camera and said, “Oh my Lord, let’s stir it and see what’s in there.” She described it as “good, thick and creamy,” pointed to the gnocchi, and said there was “a ton of chicken right there.”

She next held up a foil-lined paper bag and said, “We got 12 of their breadsticks.” She added that one breadstick was “partly eaten because I gave it to the little one on the way here.”

She then showed items packed with the order. She said they give you a ladle that comes with it, some grated Parmesan, “6 bowls because that’s how many I ordered,” and six sets of silverware.

She held up the spread and said, “They say this feeds 12 people, okay?” She also emptied extra Parmesan packets and individually wrapped mints from the bag onto the counter.

She closed the walkthrough by saying, “So $38 plus I gave a tip, obviously, um, get all that and there it is.” An on-screen caption in the video also described the order as an Olive Garden family meal and said it feeds 12 people.  Tipping debates at Olive Garden are common, like when a Texas mom tipped $20 on a $113 bill and questioned the servers’ alleged reaction.

Her TikTok profile lists her as Grandma Pam under the handle grandmapamsgroceryfinds. The account bio describes her as a loving grandma who creates copycat recipes, homestyle food, and shares life. The video caption repeated that the family meal cost $38 and that it says it feeds 12 people. The total cost of Olive Garden family meals has surprised other diners, such as when a woman paid $48 for a meal and was shocked by the sauce price.

Viewers in the comments said they thought more food would appear after the soup. One commenter wrote, “I thought the soup was just the first thing. That’s it.”

Another commenter said the clip was not about the woman who posted it, but that they kept waiting for an entrée. They wrote, “Nothing to do with the lady that posted this, but the way I kept waiting for a main dish”

Other viewers said the price did not match what they expected from a family meal. One commenter wrote, “That’s way too much money for soup and breadsticks. No ma’am”

Another commenter said soup alone can be bought for less and that they were waiting for pasta. They wrote, “You can get just the soup for like $20. That’s not a family meal. I was waiting for the pasta to show up to the meal.”

Grandma Pam replied to that comment as the creator and wrote, “Their website shows serves 12.” Other commenters answered that the serving claim did not mean 12 full dinners. One wrote, “yes, 12 servings of the soup as an appetizer lol, not 12 meal sized servings babe.”

Another commenter wrote, “It serves 12, as an APPETIZER. It’s not a meal.” However, Olive Garden’s website lists the 12-person Homemade Soup package as a family meal rather than an appetizer.
