‘Shouldn’t you be used to reaping what you sow?’ Farmer who voted for Trump reveals shocking price increase he’s facing for essential tools

In the words of Trump himself: "they did sign up for it".

There’s no denying the fact that Donald Trump’s tariffs have really hurt business owners across the country. The taxes placed on goods imported from foreign countries has left suppliers no choice but to shift the cost on to the consumer. While it’s supposed to encourage buying American-made supplies, that’s not entirely possible in some cases.

One farmer found this out the hard way when they contacted a fiberglass stake supplier to find out how much future purchases would be costing them only to be met with the harsh reality that the new price would leave them seriously out of pocket.

Trump tariffs have put prices through the roof

The farmer, who posted about his predicament on TikTok, admitted that he had voted for Trump, but he is now criticizing the president after realizing just how badly the new policies would affect his business. The @ncfamilyfarm often share snippets of their daily lives operating their farm which mostly employs immigrant workers from Mexico. However their more recent videos have been critical of the tariff policies.

The man narrating the video, Taylor, explains that the fiberglass stakes they use were quoted to him at 83 cents per stake just two weeks ago. However, since the implementation of the tariff policy the price has more than doubled, going up to $1.74 per stake. Understandably a more than 100% increase is just not practical for many who need to buy these tools and it could result in many farmers losing their livelihood thanks to Trump’s shortsighted plans.

The response to the video

Many weren’t too sympathetic to the farmer’s plight considering he voted for Donald Trump. One person asked, “as a farmer shouldn’t you be used to reaping what you sow?…” Meanwhile, another commented, “please make sure you decline any federal bailout or handout because that’s socialism.” It seems those who have always known Trump would do this cared little for the problems facing this family business.

There were a few Trump supporters in the comments but they had no helpful advice to give. One individual suggested he “Buy USA made. That’s the whole point!” but Taylor responded explaining that the U.S. doesn’t make fiberglass takes yet. This perfectly explains why Trump’s policies won’t work, many goods that are imported simply don’t have a U.S. alternative.

In a follow-up video, Taylor condemned the negative comments and defended his use of immigrant workers despite voting for a man who wants to clamp down on immigration. It seems he was able to source wooden takes for his farm but the fiberglass option is completely off the table thanks to Donald Trump.
