Security camera footage from inside The Modern Halo head spa and hair salon in Texas captured the moment a new employee pulled on a sliding glass door handle, and the large tempered panel shattered into pieces. The salon’s own TikTok account, @modernhalo_, shared the video, which has gained over five million views. On-screen text over the initial footage read, “Well this was not on today’s schedule.”
In the TikTok clip, a stylist stood near a glass-enclosed hair styling station with a seated client while a receptionist worked at the front desk. Without warning, the door disintegrated and showered broken glass fragments across the salon floor. A zoomed-in replay showed the stylist pulling the handle right as the glass broke apart.
The stylist exclaimed, “Holy- What?” The receptionist quickly stood and asked, “Are you okay?” The stylist responded, “I’m perfectly fine. Are you okay? Is everybody healthy?” Staff then checked their surroundings and confirmed everyone had shoes on.
Salon shares details after the door shattered into pieces
The receptionist asked, “Everybody got shoes on?” and received the reply, “We’re all good.” The stylist then said, “Oh, I gotta cut,” before the receptionist asked, “Oh my God, do we have multiple brooms?” The salon’s caption on the video stated, “When your shift takes a turn nobody had on the schedule Everyone was okay!” Not every salon mishap involves broken glass, though, as one customer’s $300 appointment gone wrong showed.
In a follow-up TikTok video, the salon replied to a commenter asking for an update. The caption stated, “Everyone was okay! We did have two brooms and a vacuum to clean up all that glass lol. We’ve been in business for 3 years and this is the first time anything like this has happened! We haven’t replace the door. We’re honestly rethinking this whole glass thing lol.”
The update clip showed thousands of small shattered fragments scattered across a black door mat that read “The Modern Halo HEAD SPA & DRY BAR” and the surrounding light wood tile flooring. An employee in black used a broom to sweep the debris while the camera panned past styling chairs and vanity stations with large circular lighted mirrors.
A close-up in the update showed a black vertical door handle with a large sheet-like piece of spiderwebbed tempered glass still attached to the metal fittings. The clip ended by panning across the entryway floor, which had been completely cleared of glass down to the front entrance doors.
According to SliderPro Doors and Window Service, tempered glass on a sliding door can fail suddenly when a hidden flaw grows past a critical size, even with only light contact or no contact at all. The company stated that common starting points include an old edge chip, a nickel sulfide inclusion trapped during manufacturing, or frame pressure from sagging rollers that pinches the glass edge against metal.
The company noted that tempered glass is designed to break into small blunt pieces rather than long shards once a flaw reaches the tension zone in the middle of the pane. It added that a nickel sulfide stone can expand over months or years and cause a pane to burst from the inside without any external force.
Many viewers focused on how little force appeared to be involved. One commenter wrote, “She couldn’t of pulled that door softer,” while another asked, “now why did it explode so dramatically when she barely touched it.” Others pointed to the stylist’s reaction, with one noting that she “was so shocked she started speaking in tiktok” and another saying, “Didn’t even flinch, what has this woman been through?”
Some viewers connected the moment to their own experiences. One wrote, “This happened to my friends shower omg. New fear unlocked.” Another questioned the design of the space, stating, “Ok WHY is there a glass door RIGHT there? It serves NO purpose.” Salon customers have shared their own frustrations online too, such as one woman who asked for a $400 hair refund.
