A sports car driver in Washington state allegedly plowed through multiple mailboxes along a country road before the vehicle ended up on its side, propped against a tree, according to a Reddit post by one of the affected homeowners. The incident was shared on the r/mildlyinfuriating subreddit by a user going by Meerkat212, who said he initially thought a branch had fallen on his roof before discovering a sideways car lodged against the trees on his property.
The driver and the vehicle’s occupants were reportedly not injured in the crash. However, according to Meerkat212, they were not cooperative with the situation from a legal standpoint, allegedly urging him to skip calling the police and simply arrange for a tow truck so they could leave.
“The occupants really didn’t want the cops to show up,” he wrote, recalling how those in the car pleaded with him to handle it privately. But according to him, that was no longer an option, as witnesses had already contacted the police before he even had the chance to consider it.
The driver allegedly tossed an object into a bush as police arrived
In the post, he said, the sports car had allegedly plowed through both his and his neighbor’s mailboxes before coming to a stop in the trees. He noted that those same trees appeared to have prevented the vehicle from going directly into his neighbor’s home. Reckless driving on open roads can lead to devastating outcomes.
“There’s no way the cops weren’t coming to this one,” he wrote. When police arrived at the scene, he said he observed one of the vehicle’s occupants allegedly throw an object into a nearby bush. The poster described the toss as anything but discreet, noting the object visibly bounced around before hitting the ground. “Subtlety was not this dude’s strong point,” he wrote.
According to Meerkat212, the responding officer also reportedly noticed the discarded object and directed the individual to hand it over. The person was subsequently arrested, per his account. The nature of the object was not specified in his post.
No one was reported injured in the incident. However, he was left with a damaged mailbox and bashed-up trees on his property, damage he described as “mildly frustrating.” Despite that frustration, the post and its accompanying photos appeared to strike a different chord with Reddit users, many of whom found the situation amusing. “The real mailbox was the felonies we made along the way,” one commenter wrote.
Another suggested that Meerkat212 focus less on the mailbox and more on the trees: “F the mailbox you have a picture of those trees. Request an arborist get involved. If I have learned anything Tax auditors and arborists are people who will escalate things faster than that car was going.”
A third commenter offered some reassurance, writing, “Based on the photos, the trees should be okay!” According to Meerkat212, this was reportedly not the first time the mailboxes on that stretch of road had been hit. Road conditions and driver behavior can turn even experienced drivers into headline news, as icy roads sent an 18-wheeler spinning in Minnesota.
He said his neighbors, who have lived in the area longer than he has, told him that the mailboxes had been struck by reckless drivers on two prior occasions. “The neighbors, who’ve lived here longer than us, just told me that this is the 3rd time those boxes have been hit by reckless drivers,” he wrote in the comments section of his post.
